William Anthony Costa (born December 24, 1952) is an American radio and television host in the Boston area, best known since 2022 as the host of the Billy and Lisa in the Morning show on WXKS-FM in Boston.

Early life

Costa grew up in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. [1] [2] He attended Merrimack College in Massachusetts on a hockey scholarship, majoring in English.

He and his parents are of Portuguese ancestry.

After transferring to Emerson College in Boston, he found a job as a disc jockey at a local nightclub. He later joined the Emerson radio station, WERS, as a DJ.

After graduating from Emerson with a degree in English, [2] Costa worked at a few other radio stations, including WBOS, before contacting WXKS-FM "Kiss 108" in 1980 for a lifestyle/entertainment news show he proposed. [3]

Costa pays his ex-wife $26,000 monthly in alimony. [4]

Matty In The Morning (1980 – May 3, 2022)

Costa told Kiss 108 about a lifestyle/entertainment segment he could host. This evolved into his Top 30 Countdown which is broadcast every Saturday morning and Sunday evening.

Costa co-hosted Matty In The Morning with Matt Siegel and Lisa Donovan from 2001 until Siegel's retirement on May 3, 2022. [5]

Billy and Lisa In The Morning (August 8, 2022 – present)

On May 3, 2022, Costa was named the new permanent host of Kiss 108's morning radio show Matty in the Morning following former host Siegel’s announcement of his retirement. Costa hosts Billy and Lisa In The Morning with Donovan, Justin Augirre, and Winnie Akoury on weekday mornings from 6 to 10 am.

TV (1993 – present)

Costa was the host of The Phantom Gourmet, a restaurant review show, which broadcast its first episode on June 26, 1993. In 2003, Costa moved to a new show, TV Diner on New England Cable News (NECN), [6] [7] which was cancelled in September 2013. [8] Costa now hosts Dining Playbook with Jenny Johnson on New England Sports Network (NESN). [9]

In 2011, Costa started hosting a WGBH-TV show, High School Quiz Show and continued through 2023. He was succeeded in 2024 by PBS Digital Studios host Joe Hanson. [10]

Awards

Costa has received an Emmy Award nomination for his work on Evening Magazine and has received a Children's Television Award for Rap Around, his kids' talk show. [3] [7]

He has substituted for nationally syndicated conservative talk show hosts, including Michael Reagan.

The Phantom Gourmet is a food-related television program featuring profiles of New England area restaurants. The show airs on WSBK-TV in Boston, Massachusetts, WNAC-DT2 in Providence, Rhode Island, and WPXT in Portland, Maine each Saturday and Sunday morning, with an hour episode composed of older clips followed by an hour-long episode. While the original format featured reviews by the "Phantom Critic" and numerical ratings of the restaurants, the reviews and numerical ratings have been discontinued. The show continues to feature local restaurants but focuses on describing dishes and profiling chefs and owners. In late spring of 2006, the company behind the show came out with its first Boston restaurant guide, entitled The Phantom Gourmet Guide to Boston's Best Restaurants.

J.J. Wright is an American disc jockey, originally from Louisville, Kentucky, who has been broadcasting in Boston, Massachusetts since 1973. Starting on WRKO (680-AM), he went to briefly to WBOS (92.9), then KISS 108 when the station first went on the air in 1979, there he stayed for nearly 20 years. After leaving KISS 108 in 1998, he went to WROR (105.7) doing afternoons then shifting to nights in February 2000. He used to broadcast the afternoon drive shift on WODS in Boston before being let go due to the change from oldies to a Top 40 format. He also does imaging for other CBS stations in the Boston market.

Jada were an American pop and R&B female vocal group from Boston, Massachusetts. They are known for their mix of pop, soul, dance, and R&B styling, and their gospel-inspired harmonies. Jada was signed by Universal Motown Records president Sylvia Rhone in October 2006. Jada won "Outstanding Pop/R&B Music Act of the Year" at the 2008 Boston Music Awards. Jada is managed by Laura Poulin Management/ Bristol Entertainment. Through Universal Motown, Jada released their first major label single, "American Cowboy" in the spring of 2009. This was followed by their second major label single, "Break Up Song" in the fall of 2009. Jada's song "Model That" was featured on the November 17, 2009, episode of the MTV television show The City. "American Cowboy" was featured on the Fox drama House on Monday, April 27, 2009. They released a song and music video for "This Party's on Fire" on October 4, 2011. Their most recent EP, named Supersonique, was released on January 24, 2011, and included 5 songs with 2 remixes, including "Supersonique", "This Party's on Fire", "Mercy Killing", "Can't Let Go", and "Goodbye".
