The Tradition is an event on the PGA Tour Champions. First staged 32 years ago in 1989, the PGA Tour recognizes the event as one of the five senior major golf championships. Unlike the U.S. Senior Open, Senior PGA Championship and Senior Open Championship, it is not recognized as a major by the European Senior Tour, and is not part of that tour's official schedule. It is the only senior major where the winner does not earn an exemption into a PGA Tour or European Tour event.

From 1958 to 2009, Warwick Hills was home to the PGA Tour's Buick Open tournament. From 2018, it is host to the Ally Challenge event on the PGA Tour Champions. The course was opened in June 1957. The country club also participates in a caddie program.

The 1953 PGA Championship was the 35th PGA Championship, held July 1–7 at Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Michigan, a suburb northwest of Detroit. Local resident Walter Burkemo won the match play championship, 2 & 1 over Felice Torza in the Tuesday final. The winner's share was $5,000 and the runner-up's was $3,000. Burkemo won his only major title in the second of his three finals; he lost to Sam Snead in 1951 and Chick Harbert in 1954.
The 1955 PGA Championship was the 37th PGA Championship, held July 20–26 in Michigan at Meadowbrook Country Club in Northville Township, northwest of nearby Detroit. Doug Ford won the match play championship, 4 & 3 over Cary Middlecoff in the Tuesday final; the winner's share was $5,000 and the runner-up earned $3,000. This was the first of two major titles for Ford, who won the Masters in 1957.
Plum Hollow Country Club is a country club located in Southfield, Michigan, a suburb northwest of Detroit The club is privately owned and was established in 1921. Plum Hollow was designed by architects Harry Colt and Charles Hugh Alison of the British firm Colt and Alison. The PGA Championship was held at its golf course in 1947; then a match play event, it was won by Jim Ferrier. Plum Hollow also hosted the 1957 Western Open which was won by Doug Ford, and also hosted the 2015 Michigan Amateur.
Meadowbrook Country Club is a country club in Northville Township, Wayne County, near Northville, Michigan. The idea for Meadowbrook Country Club, a private golf and social club, came about in 1916 when 23 Northville businessmen purchased 125 acres (0.51 km2) of the Fred C. Cochran Farm. The club was named after a brook, which ran through the property. Its golf course hosted the PGA Championship in 1955, won by Doug Ford. Willie Park, Jr is credited with designing the original Meadowbrook 6-hole course which are present-day holes #10, #11, #7, #2, #3, and #18.

The Detroit Golf Club is a private golf club located in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan in the middle of a neighborhood area on north side of the city near the University of Detroit Mercy and Palmer Woods Historic District. Bert Way designed the original 6-hole course. It was expanded to 9 holes, and finally Donald Ross built the current 36-hole course. The club grounds crew maintains two courses, the North and the South Course. The head pro is Josh Upson. Starting in 2019, Detroit Golf Club began hosting the Rocket Mortgage Classic, a new annual PGA Tour event.

The 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship was a golf tournament contested from May 26 to May 30, 2009 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. It was the 71st NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The team championship was won by the Texas A&M Aggies who won their first national championship by defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks in the championship match play round 3–2. This was the first tournament to feature a match play playoff to determine the national champion. The individual national championship was won by Matt Hill from North Carolina State University.
The LPGA Volvik Championship was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour. A new event in 2016, it was played in Michigan at Travis Pointe Country Club, southwest of Ann Arbor.
The Rocket Mortgage Classic is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour. It was first staged in 2019 at Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan. The tournament replaced the Quicken Loans National on the PGA Tour schedule. It is the first PGA Tour event in history to be held completely within the Detroit city limits. For the 2019 season, the event was part of the Open Qualifying Series, giving two non-exempt players entry into The Open Championship.
