The Communist Party of Nepal,abbreviated CPN,CPN-Maoist Centre,CPN Maoist Centre,or CPN(MC),is the third largest political party in Nepal. It was founded in 1994 after breaking away from the Communist Party of Nepal.
The Communist Party of Nepal,abbreviated CPN (UML),is a communist party in Nepal formed in January 1991 after the merger of the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist) and the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist–Leninist). There have been four prime ministers from the party and the party has led the government five times. The party merged with CPN to form the Nepal Communist Party on 17 May 2018 but the new party was dissolved and CPN (UML) was revived by a Supreme Court decision on 8 March 2021.

He previously served as the member of parliament from Gulmi–2 from 1999 to 2013. Gyawali also served as the Minister for Culture,Tourism and Civil Aviation from May 2006 to April 2007 under prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala.

General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives,the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government. Following the announcement of final result by the Election Commission,K.P. Oli of Communist Party of Nepal was sworn in as Prime Minister on 15 February 2018 by the President according to Article 76 (2) of the constitution. He passed a Motion of Confidence on 11 March 2018 with 208 votes.

In today's date,the People's Socialist Party,Nepal is junior ally in Nepali Congress led Deuba government. Since the 2022 local election,the party stands as the third largest party of Madhesh Province after Nepali Congress and CPN (UML) respectively.
National Assembly elections were held in Nepal on 26 January 2022 in order to elect 19 of the 20 retiring Class II members of the National Assembly,the upper house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. Members of the National Assembly are elected through indirect ballot and serve six year terms with one third of the members retiring every two years. However,the retiring members served only four year terms due to the entire house being elected in 2018 when a lottery was held to determine two,four and six year term members.
General elections will be held in Nepal on 20 November 2022 to elect the 275 members of the House of Representatives. Out of total 275 HOR members,165 shall be elected through FPTP system and 110 through proportional representation. The election will be held alongside provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies.
