Black Josh is a rapper from Manchester, England. Since his first releases in 2013, Josh has worked with various producers and rappers across the UK including many other Blah Records artists. He has also been part of the rap groups Cult of the Damned, Levelz and The Mouse Outfit. Writers have variously called him a "Manchester cult hero" and a "lyrical maverick". [1] [2]

Works and Style

Black Josh first started rapping over hip hop beats whilst at college sometime before 2011. [3] His first releases to gain traction came with The Mouse Outfit in 2013, [4] [5] followed by his Black Josh EP. [6] In 2014-15 Josh began to release on Blah Records, starting with the single Paul Scholes. [7] He has since dropped 8 releases on Blah. [8] They have included the 2018 albumYung Sweg Lawd, featuring production from Skepta, [9] and 2020's Mannyfornia. Reviewers praised Mannyfornia as "unapologetically Manchester" [10] and a "cohesive, dynamic and eclectic album.". [11]

In 2019, Josh's releases were selected for inclusion in the British Library's Sound and Moving Image Catalogue alongside other Blah artists. [12]

Christian J. Ward, known professionally as Hitmaka, is an American record producer and former rapper. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Ward initially secured a record deal with American rapper DMX's vanity label Bloodline Records, under the stage name Iceberg. Ward would later sign with Epic Records, where he gained major recognition rapping as Yung Berg, releasing his major-label debut single "Sexy Lady" in April 2007. The single was released in promotion for his debut album Look What You Made Me (2008), which also included the hit songs "Sexy Can I" and "The Business"; the former reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Blah Records is a British hip hop and alternative hip hop record label owned and managed by Lee Scott and Salar Saajedi. It was founded by Lee Scott and producer Molotov in 2006, with label rapper Milkavelli also originally listed as a director. They originally started the label to release the music of their rap posse Children of the Damned. That group later evolved into Cult of the Damned, featuring many label artists.

Terrell Anthony Cox, known professionally as Cochise, is an American rapper and singer. He initially garnered attention after his 2019 single "Hatchback" rose to popularity on TikTok in 2020. His song "Tell Em" with fellow rapper Snot peaked at number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021. Cochise has since released two studio albums, with his debut being Benbow Crescent in 2021.

Cult of the Damned is an English rap group, with a shifting line up of a dozen-plus rappers and producers including Lee Scott, Salar and Black Josh. Formerly known as Children of the Damned they have been releasing music since 2007's album Tourretes Camp, all through various incarnations of Blah Records.
