Black New Japan was a professional wrestling stable that competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Black New Japan was led by Masahiro Chono and was one of many of Chono's anti-New Japan stables.

History

Black New Japan began around October 2004 following the 2004 G1 Climax when Masahiro Chono broke away from the New Japan army and turned heel creating a new anti-New Japan army. For his new army, Chono reunited with fellow nWo Japan and Team 2000 alumni Scott Norton, New Japan wrestler Manabu Nakanishi, & Makai Club alumni Makai #1 (later becoming Black Strong Machine), Katsuyori Shibata, Kazunari Murakami, Mitsuya Nagai, & Ryushi Yanagisawa. In their first tour, Black New Japan competed in two tournaments. The first was on October 17, 2004 where Nagai & Shibata teamed with former Makai Club member Ryota Chikuzen in the Yuko 6-man tag team tournament, where they defeated Hiro Saito, Tatsutoshi Goto, and Toru Yano in the semifinals but lost to Shinsuke Nakamura, Blue Wolf and Katsuhiko Nakajima. [1] On October 24, Chono and Shibata entered President Hoshino's 10,000,000 Yen Tag Tournament defeating Genichiro Tenryu and Kensuke Sasaki in the semifinals but lost to Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Shinsuke Nakamura in the finals. [1] At Chrono Stream: Masahiro Chono 20th Anniversary on November 3, 2004. Nagai (teaming with Masayuki Naruse) to defeat Tenryu and Masanobu Fuchi to win the All Asia Tag Team Championship, later in the night Nakanishi, Norton, and Don Frye (one night member) defeated Yutaka Yoshie, Blue Wolf, and Shinsuke Nakamura, Shibata lost to Toshiaki Kawada, and in the main event, Chono teaming with Riki Choshu defeated Tenzan and Yuji Nagata. [2] For the Battle Final 2004 tour, Black New Japan formed an alliance with Jyushin Thunder Liger's stable C.T.U. On December 9, Black New Japan took part in a best of 7 series against New Japan but lost it 3–4. [3]

In January 2005, Shibata and Murakami left New Japan & Black New Japan to join Big Mouth LOUD. At Toukon Festival: Wrestling World 2005 on January 4, 2005, Nakanishi and Nagai entered the 8 Ultimate Royal Tournament where Nagai lost to Dolgorsürengiin Sumyaabazar while Nakanishi defeated Toru Yano in the first round but lost to Ron Waterman in the semifinals. Later in the night, Chono won a dogfight against Choshu and Tenzan. [4] In February 2005, Harry Smith and Minoru Suzuki joined Black New Japan and the group would take part in several matches against the New Japan Army. On the first show on January 23, Smith defeated Hiro Saito, Nagai made a successful All Asia Tag Title defense, and Nakanishi & C.T.U.'s Minoru Tanaka defeated Tenzan and Koji Kanemoto. [5] On January 26, Black New Japan and the New Japan Army went to battle. C.T.U. leader Jyushin Thunder Liger defeated Katsushi Takemura while Koji Kanemoto and Wataru Inoue defeated Jado and Gedo to even things and the New Japan Army won a single elimination match. [5] On February 2, Nagai lost the All Asia Tag Title in All Japan to Bull Buchanan and Rico. [6] On February 20, Black New Japan would win a single elimination match against the New Japan Army. [5] On March 13, Nakanishi and Norton challenged Hiroshi Tanahashi and Shinsuke Nakamura for the IWGP Tag Team Championship but lost. [7] Following the tag title match, Nakanishi left Black New Japan to join Yujia Nagata's Team JAPAN, around the same time, Togi Makabe and Toru Yano joined the group. On June 4, 2005, Scott Norton challenged Hiroyoshi Tenzan for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship but came up short. [8] In June 2005, Yano and Smith entered a tournament for the IWGP U-30 Openweight Championship. Smith would finish with 4 points while Yano became a runner-up losing to Hiroshi Tanahashi in the finals. [9]

In July 2005, Black New Japan (along with Team JAPAN and C.T.U.) would engage in several matches with New Japan Army members. On July 1, the first series would go to a tie with Black and New Japan each getting 3 wins. [10] Another series took place on July 17 with Black New Japan winning 4–1. [10] In August 2005, Chono, Suzuki, Yano, and Makabe would enter the 2005 G1 Climax. Makabe would finish last in Block B with 0 Points due to injury while Yano finished in 7th place with 4 points in Block B. [9] Suzuki would finish in 5th place with 6 points [9] while Chono won Block A with 10 points. After defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in the semifinals, he would defeat Kazuyuki Fujita to win his 5th G1 Climax. [11] Two months after the G1, Chono challenged Fujita for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in a three way (also involving Brock Lesnar) at Toukon Souzou New Chapter on October 8, but lost to the match after he was pinned by Lesnar. [4] Following Toukon Souzou, Riki Choshu returned to power in New Japan and disbanded several stables including Black New Japan. [12]

Shinsuke Nakamura is a Japanese professional wrestler and former mixed martial artist. He is currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the SmackDown brand.

Manabu Nakanishi Japanese professional wrestler

Manabu Nakanishi is a Japanese retired professional wrestler and former amateur wrestler, who was primarily associated with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He is a one-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, one-time G1 Climax winner and three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion.

Tatsutoshi Goto is a Japanese professional wrestler. He competed primarily in WAR and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and briefly used the name "T2000 Machine". He also briefly competed in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as part of the nWo Japan.

Takashi Iizuka Japanese professional wrestler

Takayuki Iizuka, better known by his stage name Takashi Iizuka, is a retired Japanese professional wrestler. He is best known for his 33-year career in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he was a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion. He has also worked for Pro Wrestling Noah, where he was a one-time GHC Tag Team Champion.

Kazunari Murakami Japanese professional wrestler and MMA fighter

Kazunari Murakami is a Japanese professional wrestler and retired mixed martial artist currently working for Pro Wrestling Noah. Murakami is best known for his work in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) during the late 1990s and early 2000s, where he primarily competed as a member of the villainous Makai Club stable. Aside from pro wrestling, Murakami was also part of the first fight in PRIDE history, defeating John Dixson by submission in 1997.

Togi Makabe Japanese professional wrestler

Shinya Makabe, better known by his ring name Togi Makabe is a Japanese professional wrestler, trained by and currently performing for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he is a former one-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, two-time IWGP Tag Team Champion, two-time NEVER Openweight Champion and one-time NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion.

Katsuyori Shibata Japanese professional wrestler and trainer

Katsuyori Shibata is a Japanese semi-retired professional wrestler, mixed martial artist and professional wrestling trainer. In professional wrestling, he is known for his hard hitting offense. He is currently working for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), though on indefinite hiatus due to injury. In New Japan he is a former three-time NEVER Openweight Champion, one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and the winner of the 2017 New Japan Cup. He is also a former holder of Revolution Pro Wrestling's British Heavyweight Championship. Since March 2018, Shibata has served as the head coach of NJPW's dojo in Los Angeles.

Ryūshi Yanagisawa is a Japanese professional wrestler, mixed martial artist and kickboxer. His real name is Atsushi Yanagisawa. As a martial artist, he competed in K-1, Pancrase Hybrid Wrestling (Pancrase) and Fighting Network RINGS. As a professional wrestler he competed in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and Inoki Genome Federation (IGF).

Toukon Sanjushi was a Japanese professional wrestling trio consisting of Keiji Mutoh, Masahiro Chono, and Shinya Hashimoto.

Cho-Ten was a professional wrestling team that competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling on and off from February 1995 - September 2006. The team consisted of Masahiro Chono and Hiroyoshi Tenzan. Cho-Ten is one of the most decorated and successful tag teams in New Japan history. They held the IWGP Tag Team Championship five times and won the 1995 Super Grade Tag League.

Tencozy Professional wrestling tag team

Tencozy is a professional wrestling tag team that has competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Japan Pro Wrestling. They are seven-time tag team champions. In their history, Tencozy currently hold the second longest IWGP Tag Team Championship reign and are currently the first and only team to have won both the G1 Tag League and World's Strongest Tag Determination League in general and in the same year (2008).

Toru Yano Japanese professional wrestler

Toru Yano, is a Japanese professional wrestler, trained by and currently signed to New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he is the KOPW 2020 and the provisional KOPW 2021. He is a four time NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion. He is also a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and two-time GHC Tag Team Champion.

Makai Club, originally Puroresu Kessha Makai Club, was a villainous professional wrestling stable that competed in New Japan Pro Wrestling. It was led by Tadao Yasuda and managed by Kantaro Hoshino, and its gimmick was that of a group of mixed martial arts fighters and pro wrestlers who worshipped Antonio Inoki as a god.

Seigigun was a professional wrestling stable in New Japan Pro Wrestling, led by Yuji Nagata.

RISE was a professional wrestling stable that competed in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) that was active from 2007 until 2010. The group was founded and led by Shinsuke Nakamura. The group was the successor to the group "BLACK" which featured Nakamura as a co-leader with Masahiro Chono. At one point or another Hirooki Goto, Giant Bernard, Prince Devitt, Minoru, Travis Tomko, Milano Collection AT, Rick Fuller and Low Ki were members of the group. Members of RISE held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, IWGP Tag Team Championship, IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship as well as winning the 2007 G1 Tag League. In 2009 several members left the group to join Great Bash Heel (GBH) and by early 2010 RISE was ended.

Team 2000 was a professional wrestling stable that competed in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Throughout its tenure, T2000 was New Japan's top heel stable.

Great Bash Heel, often abbreviated to G・B・H, is a professional wrestling stable turned tag team in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).

NJPW Ultimate Crush 2003 New Japan Pro-Wrestling event

Ultimate Crush was a major professional wrestling event promoted by New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The event took place on May 2, 2003, at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. The card contained a mixture of pro wrestling matches and mixed-martial arts fights, and the show was headlined by Yoshihiro Takayama defending the NWF Heavyweight Championship against Yuji Nagata, who also defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship in a unification match.
