Blackbird Books is a South African publishing company. It was founded by columnist Thabiso Mahlape in August 2015. [1] [2] It had been incubated by and became an imprint under Jacana Publishers. [3] It became an independent publishing house as of 1 April 2020. [4] Blackbird Books was created to publish new and existing black writers and narratives, and thereby entertain a variety of readers across different demographics.

Since its inception, BlackBird has published titles like the award-winning Endings & Beginnings by Redi Tlhabi, [5] Eyebags & Dimples by Bonnie Henna, [6] If You Keep Digging by Keletso Mopai, The Eternal Audience Of One by Rémy Ngamije, [7] An Image In A Mirror by Ijangolet S Ogwang, [8] Sweet Medicine by Panashe Chigumadzi, [9] Piggy Boy’s Blue by Nakhane Toure, [10] and The Pavement Bookworm by Philani Dladla. Neo Ntsoma is a South African photographer known for her photojournalism, portraiture, music and popular culture photography. Born in Vryburg and brought up in the rural areas of Mafikeng in the North West Province, her fascination about films was triggered at an early age. Growing up in the apartheid era and seeing the negative portrayal images of black South Africans and the lack of participation of black women in a media industry dominated by white males, this reinvigorated her to want to make change, however it was not an easy dream to fulfill due to race restrictions at the time. Ntsoma attended St Mary's High School where she would be introduced to music, dance and drama, this is where she knew her career path was different from her peers. Despite several setbacks throughout her life she kept on pursuing her dream of being a photographer and succeeded. Ntsoma is known for her photographs that stand out for the odd angles from which they are taken and the way she plays with what is in focus in the photos and what is not. Besides being an award-winning photographer she has become an enthusiastic mentor for young photojournalists.

Bonang Dorothy Matheba, is a South African television presenter, radio personality, actress and social media personality. Born in Mahikeng, North West, she is known for her flamboyant presenting skills and her signature voice. Matheba presented the SABC 1 music show LIVE which built her spotlight in the industry. She is also known for being the first Black South African to be featured on numerous magazines.

Redi Tlhabi is a South African journalist, producer, author and a former radio presenter. She presented The Redi Tlhabi Show on Radio 702 for over a decade. Her broadcasting career spans years spent at Kaya FM, being a newscaster for the SABC and later, eMedia Holdings owned eNews Channel Africa, eNCA.

Touwsrivier CPV Solar Project

Black Canary: Ignite and Super Sons Book Two: The Foxglove Mission were the last titles to be published under DC Ink. Diana: Princess of the Amazons, the first title of DC Graphic Novels for Kids, was published on January 7, 2020. The first reprint, DC Super Hero Girls: Weird Science was published on July 14, 2020.
