History

Origins

Blankenberge was formed in Barnaul, Siberia in 2015 by Yana Guselnikova (vocals) and Daniil Levshin (guitar, synth) after a trip throughout Europe. The band's name was chosen after the city Blankenberge in Belgium, which they visited on their trips. [1] Yana and Daniil began to compose songs with their friends in Barnaul which would be part of their debut EP. They moved to Saint Petersburg and met members Daian Aiziatov (guitar), Dmitriy Marakov (bass) and Sergey Vorontsov (drums) to complete the lineup, though they knew each other before (except Sergey). [2] [3]

Career

The band released their self-titled EP Blankenberge on March 12, 2016. Later that year, they released their first single "Pictures of You" in August, a The Cure's cover. On June 30, 2017, Blankenberge released their debut studio album Radiogaze along with the single "We". They signed to record label Elusive Sound in July of that same year. They released their second studio album More on April 10, 2019, accompanied with the single "Right Now". Their third studio album Everything was released on November 14, 2021, with their fourth single "No Sense", becoming the first album without band member Daian. [3]

Shoegaze is a subgenre of indie and alternative rock characterized by its ethereal mixture of obscured vocals, guitar distortion and effects, feedback, and overwhelming volume. It emerged in Ireland and the United Kingdom in the late 1980s among neo-psychedelic groups who usually stood motionless during live performances in a detached, non-confrontational state. The name comes from the heavy use of effects pedals, as the performers were often looking down at their pedals during concerts.

Civilisation I 2019 EP by Kero Kero Bonito

Civilisation I is the fourth extended play (EP) by British band Kero Kero Bonito. It was released on 30 September 2019, shortly after the single "When the Fires Come". In a press release for its sequel EP, Civilisation II, the band describes the EP as a concept album, where they "envisioned a historically-ambiguous alternate-reality". The EP marks another change in terms of the band's musical style; eschewing many of the guitar-driven shoegaze influences of TOTEP and Time 'n' Place, instead drawing heavily on synth-pop and dream pop. Lyrically, the EP explores concepts of society, war, religion, and environmentalism. The band released a follow-up to the EP on 21 April 2021. Both EPs along with an additional track, "Gateway", were merged into a compilation album, titled simply Civilisation and released on 10 September 2021.
