Blistex Inc. was founded in 1947 in the business of developing and marketing lip care products. [1] It manufactures and sells a wide range of lip balm, lip ointment, and other lip-related products under the Blistex brand name. [2] [3] The company owns and markets additional consumer health and personal care brands including Odor-Eaters (foot care), Tucks (rectal care), [4] Stridex (acne care), Ivarest (anti-itch ointments), [5] Kank-A (oral pain relief), [6] and Glysomed (moisturizing lotions). [7]

Blistex is headquartered outside of Chicago in Oak Brook, Illinois. [8] The company operates a production facility in Oak Brook, Illinois, and is a member of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association. As of November 2021, Blistex products are sold around the world. [9]

Stridex is an American acne treatment and prevention medicine, originally registered trademark of Bayer Corporation. It comes in the form of fibrous pads saturated with astringents. Most products in the Stridex line contain as the active ingredient salicylic acid (0.5–2.5%); Stridex Power Pads instead contain benzoyl peroxide (2.5%), a nonprescription acne treatment medication. However, they also warn about possible side effects: dryness of the skin, possible burning, and tingling. Patients are advised to apply treatment with caution around lips, nose and mouth, or cuts and scrapes, and also avoid excessive sun exposure. In 2013, FDA started to investigate a possible link between benzoyl peroxide- and/or salicylic acid-based acne prevention medicine with hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reactions without calling off any products or placing warnings.

It is applied directly on the sore and works by numbing the local area to prevent discomfort and forming a protective mucous barrier with a compound benzoin tincture that protects the ulcer from further irritation, allowing it to heal more rapidly.

Resinol is a skin protectant and topical analgesic that is made by ResiCal Inc. from Orchard Park, New York. It is an over-the-counter drug that can currently be purchased in 1.25 or 3.3 ounce jars by contacting a local pharmacy's drug wholesaler to order the item or on the Internet. It is an ointment that is beige in color and has a distinctive rubbery scent. It has a tacky consistency and is somewhat difficult to get off undesired body parts it comes into contact with.

Horse ointment, known as horse oil and horse fat, is a topical formulation derived from subcutaneous fat of horses. Due to its thickness and viscosity, horse ointment is intended for topical use on human skin and mucous membranes to moisturize and increase the restoration of damaged skin. Horse ointment was traditionally prepared and used in ancient China for the treatment of qi deficiency, hemorrhoids, burns, and xeroderma. Due to the amount of fatty acids in horse ointment, which is similar to that of human skin fat, it can penetrate through the surface of skin. Nowadays, it is commonly applied to skin for the purpose of soothing redness and irritation. It is considered a natural skincare product with low risks of sensitization and irritation and is safe for people of all ages, including infants and seniors.
