The Blue Cross-Blue Shield Building is an office building in Chicago, Illinois. The building is located at 55 W Wacker Drive in the Loop in Downtown Chicago. It was designed in a Brutalist style by C.F. Murphy Associates. The building opened in 1968 as the headquarters for BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois. [1] Foreign tenants of this Building includes the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago (TECO-Chicago), the consular post of Taiwan in Illinois. [2]

Wacker Drive is a major multilevel street in Chicago, Illinois, running along the south side of the main branch and the east side of the south branch of the Chicago River in the Loop. The vast majority of the street is double-decked; the upper level intended for local traffic, and the lower level for through-traffic and trucks serving buildings on the road. It is sometimes cited as a precursor to the modern freeway, though when it was built the idea was that pleasure vehicles would use the upper level. It is the only street in the city that is prefixed with all four cardinal directions, albeit on different parts of its route. The drive is named for early 20th century Chicago businessman and city planner Charles H. Wacker.

The building, with 50 floors, was designed by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura. It was formerly known as the RR Donnelley Building when RR Donnelley was the primary tenant. RR Donnelley moved its corporate headquarters to a different location in May 2005, and in 2007 the building became the corporate headquarters of United Airlines. It was designated a Chicago Landmark on February 27, 2002. The district includes numerous significant buildings on Michigan Avenue facing Grant Park. Structural engineering was by Thornton Tomasetti. A topping-out ceremony was held in September 2019 and the building officially opened in on October 14, 2020.
