The football rivalry between Académica Operária and Sport Sal Rei Club is a rivalry in the island of Boa Vista, Cape Verde known as the Boa Vista Island derby (Derby da ilha da Boa Vista), one of two on the island the other is Derby Eterno da Boa Vista (Eternal Derby of Boa Vista) between SSRC and Sporting Boa Vista. The object of the game is to score by moving the ball beyond the goal line into the opposing goal.

Associação Académica e Operária da Boa Vista is a sports club that its football (soccer) team had played in the Premier division and plays in the Boa Vista Island South Zone Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the island capital of Sal Rei in the island of Boa Vista and plays with Boa Vista's teams in the same stadium. Apart from football (soccer) there are also in the club basketball, volleyball and athletics departments.

Sport Sal Rei Club is a sports club that its football (soccer) team had played in the Premier division and plays in the Boa Vista Island South Zone Division in Cape Verde. It is based in Sal Rei in the island of Boa Vista. Its current president is Ogino Almeida and its manager is Marley Monteiro. The club was once owned by Lin Fortes.

History

The rivalry began around the 1980s after the regional championships started. There have been over 75 meetings between the clubs and approximately 80 with the cup and super cup competitions. Until the 1990s, Académica Operária was known as Académico Sal Rei.

Sal Rei's recent win was on January 21, 2017, Sal Rei's last home win was on February 28, 2016. Académica Operária's last win was on February 28, 2016. Its recent highest score match between the club was on April 23, 2016.

Cultural rivalry

Académica Operária is an affiliate of Académica de Coimbra, Portugal and Sport Sal Rei Club (SSRC) is an affiliate to SL Benfica of Portugal. Académica Operária was founded in 1977, one of several clubs affiliated to a Portuguese club that were founded after independence.

Football rivalry

The rivalry is one of the newest in Cape Verde, there are only two on Boa Vista Island, the other is the Eternal Derby of Boa Vista which featured SSRC and Sporting Boa Vista.

Each club has won a single national title. Académica Operária is he most successful football (soccer) club on the island, having won about 22 official titles, the remaining 21 are regional compared to Sal Rei's 18 official titles, the remaining 17 are regional.
