Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons in Kenya face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Sodomy is a felony per Section 162 of the Kenyan Penal Code, punishable by 14 years' imprisonment, and any sexual practices between males are a felony under section 165 of the same statute, punishable by 5 years' imprisonment. While female same sex-sexual activity is not explicitly prohibited by law, lesbians, bisexual women and transgender people are not recognised in the Kenyan Constitution, and are discriminated against, covertly, as well as undergo corrective rape practices by heterosexual men. On 24 May 2019, the High Court of Kenya refused an order to declare sections 162 and 165 unconstitutional. The state does not recognise any relationships between persons of the same sex; same-sex marriage is banned under the Kenyan Constitution since 2010. There are no explicit protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Adoption is prohibited to same-sex couples.

He was known for portraying the titular character in the television series Papa Shirandula, which he also created and won the 2010 Kalasha Award for Best Actor in a TV Series. Bukeko also appeared in the 2012 film The Captain of Nakara. Bukeko died on July 18, 2020, from what seemed like COVID-19 symptoms.
Patrick Oketch is a Kenyan actor known for playing Charlie in the Citizen TV drama series Mother-in-Law. He also portrayed Field Ruwe in the 2015 short film Intellectual Scum. Born in 1981 in the Mathare Slums, Patrick is a trained teacher currently pursuing a degree in Theatre Studies and Film Technology at Kenyatta University. He is also a prolific scriptwriter and the script editor for the star-studded show MaEmpress on Maisha Magic.
Veronica Waceke is a Kenyan actress. She first appeared in the 2015 film Fundi-Mentals. For her performance in the film My Faith, Waceke won the Best East African Female Actress award at the Mashariki Film Festival. She portrayed Lesedi in the Kenya National Theatre's production of Walter Sitati's play; Necessary Madness 2 and Deliberate Contempt in 2019. Waceke was nominated for the 2014 Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Award for the Best Actress in a television drama series 'Higher Learning'.
