The Heysel Stadium disaster was a crowd disaster that occurred on 29 May 1985 when Juventus F.C. fans escaping from an attack by Liverpool fans were pressed against a wall the Heysel Stadium in Brussels, Belgium, before the start of the 1985 European Cup Final. The stadium was poorly maintained and in desperate need of repair and had failed inspections prior to the disaster, resulting in the collapse of the wall. Thirty-nine people—mostly Italians and Juventus fans—were killed and 600 were injured in the confrontation.
The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin.
Michel François Platini is a French football administrator and former player and manager. Attorney General v Oldridge[2000] IESC 29; [2000] 4 IR 593 was an Irish Supreme Court case which examined "whether corresponding offenses to wire fraud existed in Irish law." The court found that although "wire fraud" did not exist in Irish law, the criminal activity was covered by existing fraud laws. The result of this decision was to broaden the use of fraud and specifically to rule that the charge of "conspiracy to defraud" is constitutional.
