Middlesbrough Football Club is a professional football club in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, England. The men's team compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. Formed in 1876, they have played at the Riverside Stadium since 1995. The club played at Ayresome Park for 92 years, from 1903 to 1995.

James Anton Blyth is a Scottish football goalkeeper and coach. He played for Preston North End, Coventry City, Hereford United, Birmingham City and Nuneaton Borough. Blyth also represented Scotland twice and was selected for their 1978 FIFA World Cup squad. He has since worked for Coventry City, Celtic and Middlesbrough as a goalkeeping coach.

He was sold to neighbouring club Middlesbrough in 1951 for £9000, where he made 92 appearances over five seasons. He finished his career with a two-year spell at Northampton Town.
The 1988 Football League Second Division play-off Final was an association football match contested between Chelsea and Middlesbrough over two legs on 25 May 1988 and 28 May 1988. It was to determine which club would play the next season in the First Division, the top tier of English football. Chelsea had finished the season fourth from bottom in the First Division, while Middlesbrough were third in the Second Division. They were joined in the play-offs by the teams that had finished fourth and fifth in the Second Division: Chelsea defeated Blackburn Rovers in their play-off semi-final, while Middlesbrough beat Bradford City.
Robert Whitehead, known as Bob or Bobby Whitehead, is an English former footballer who made 73 appearances in the Football League playing as a right back for Newcastle United and Darlington in the 1950s and 1960s. He also played in the Southern League for Cambridge City.
