Bonab (electoral district) is the 7th electoral district in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran. This electoral district has a population of 129,795 and elects 1 member of parliament. From the 1st to 5th Iranian legislative elections Bonab and Malekan were a joint electoral district, and in just the first election had 2 members of Islamic Consultative Assembly.

It is located in Iranian Azerbaijan, bordering with Armenia, Republic of Azerbaijan, Ardabil Province, West Azerbaijan Province, and Zanjan Province. The capital of East Azerbaijan is Tabriz. East Azerbaijan Province is in Regions 3 of Iran, with its secretariat located in its capital city, Tabriz.

The Islamic Consultative Assembly, also called the Iranian Parliament, the Iranian Majles, is the national legislative body of Iran. The Parliament currently has 290 representatives, changed from the previous 272 seats since the 18 February 2000 election. The most recent election took place on 26 February 2016 and the new parliament was opened on 28 May 2016.

Malekan (electoral district)

Malekan is the 9th electoral district in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran. The district has 106,118 residents and elects one member of parliament. Malekan and Bonab were a joint electoral district from 1st to 5th Iranian legislative election and in just the first election returned two members of Islamic Consultative Assembly.

1980 Iranian legislative election

Parliamentary elections were held in Iran on 13 March 1980, with a second round on 9 May. They were the first elections to the Majlis since the overthrow of the Shah, and were contested to a considerable degree on a party basis.

1984

Parliamentary elections were held in Iran on 15 April 1984, with a second round on 17 May. The majority of seats were won by independents, whilst the Islamic Republican Party was the only party to win seats. Voter turnout was 65.1% in the first round.

Parliamentary elections were held in Iran on 8 April 1988, with a second round on 13 May. The result was a victory for leftist politicians who later emerged as reformists. The number of clerics elected to the Majlis was reduced by over a third.
