Bongfish GmbH, credited as Bongfish, is a video game developer and publisher in Graz, Austria. Originally founded as a start-up [1] in the science incubator of Graz University of Technology, [2] the company was established in its current form in 2007. [3] [4]

History

Bongfish published its first video game, Stoked for Xbox 360, in 2009. A year later, 2010, Harms Way was the first title by Bongfish developed for Microsoft Studios. This was followed up in 2012 with the title Red Bull Crashed Ice Kinect on the Xbox 360 console for Red Bull Media House [5] and Microsoft Studios. With Motocross Madness, a third title was published for the Xbox 360 in 2013.

In 2015, Bongfish started a co-development partnership with Wargaming to create game-play features and content for their MMO World of Tanks and their Frontline game mode. [6] Together with Flashman Games LLC, [7] Bongfish acquired the rights to produce Smurfs' Village a social mobile game based on the Smurfs franchise in 2016.

In 2019, Bongfish founded Blackshark.ai, a sub-division of the company focusing on geospatial analytics and spatial computing. [8] [9] In 2020, Blackshark.ai was mentioned as the company that generated the world's surface for the Microsoft Flight Simulator utilizing Bing images. [10] [11] [12]

Microsoft Flight Simulator began as a set of articles on computer graphics, written by Bruce Artwick throughout 1976, about flight simulation using 3-D graphics. When the editor of the magazine told Artwick that subscribers were interested in purchasing such a program, Artwick founded Sublogic Corporation to commercialize his ideas. At first the new company sold flight simulators through mail order, but that changed in January 1979 with the release of Flight Simulator (FS) for the Apple II. They soon followed this up with versions for other systems and from there it evolved into a long-running series of computer flight simulators.

The Xbox 360 is a home video game console developed by Microsoft. As the successor to the original Xbox, it is the second console in the Xbox series. It competed with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles. It was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with detailed launch and game information announced later that month at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Xbox Avatars are avatars and characters that represent users of the Xbox network service on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S video game consoles, Windows 10, and Windows 10 Mobile. Stoked is a snowboarding video game developed by Austrian-based Bongfish GmbH for the Xbox 360 in 2009. It is the latest entry in the Stoked Rider snowboard game series and is in association with Absinthe Films. In 2009 an updated version, Stoked: Big Air Edition, was released for Xbox 360, and a Microsoft Windows version was released only for the PAL region in 2011.

Motocross Madness is a motocross racing video game that was developed by Austrian studio Bongfish and published by Microsoft Studios. It was released on April 10, 2013 on Xbox Live Arcade. It is a sequel to two Microsoft Windows games, 1998's Motocross Madness and 2000's Motocross Madness 2, which were developed by Rainbow Studios, who have since moved on to making the MX vs. ATV series.

MXGP The Official Motocross Videogame was the first in a series of racing video games developed and published by Milestone. The game was released worldwide on 18 November 2014 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Xbox 360.

<i>Microsoft Flight Simulator</i> (2020 video game) 2020 amateur flight simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator is an amateur flight simulator developed by Asobo Studio and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is an entry in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series which began in 1982, and was preceded by Microsoft Flight Simulator X in 2006. The game is a return of the series after 14 years, with development beginning six years prior to its release. It was released on August 18, 2020, for Windows, with a virtual reality (VR) version released in December of the same year as part of the free Sim 2 update. Microsoft Flight Simulator is the first game in the series to see a VR and console release, with it being released on the Xbox Series X and Series S on July 27, 2021.
