Boxing at the 2015 European Games – Qualification

Qualification for the boxing events at the 2015 European Games will begin in June 2014. Nations are limited to one entry per weight division. Azerbaijan will have host nation positions available in each weight category. [1]

Qualification rules

Men's

NOC's will be awarded quota places by EUBC and AIBA based on historical data of previous European Championships.

Women's

In the women's events, the EUBC European Women’s Boxing Championships in Bucharest, Romania will be the official qualification event after which the European ranking will be established by 30 June 2014. If an NOC has more than one athlete in the top 14, the next best ranked NOC will received the allocation. 2 other place per weight category are reserved for 'universality' and host nominations. Moreover, the top five European athletes in the 75 kg class at the 2014 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in South Korea will earn a quota place.

At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, matches across fifteen weight categories in boxing were contested between 21 and 30 June 2019, of which ten were allocated to men and five were allocated to women.

There was a nominal total of 316 athlete quota places available for boxing at the 2019 European Games; 256 for men and 60 for women.

Qualification for the boxing events at the 2020 Summer Olympics is determined by the performances at four Continental Olympic Qualifying Tournaments and at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament, all of which were scheduled to take place on two separate phases because of the consequent Olympic delay and the circumstances involved in the COVID-19 crisis: January to March 2020 and April to June 2021. The event is set to return to London in 2021. The World Olympic Qualifying Tournament is currently in contention of being held. The current consensus is in its cancellation, but changes may occur. The 2020 European Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament may yet again be postponed, this time to June, 2021. AIBA was suspended by the IOC as the Olympic governing body for boxing in 2019. However, AIBA has reiterated its offer to work with the IOC Boxing Task Force to ensure the Olympic qualifying events can still take place. Further negotiations continue. If the 2020 World Olympic Qualifying Tournament is canceled, fifty-three quota places that would have been available at the World Olympic Qualifier will now be assigned based on rankings instead, with the best-ranked boxer per region, per weight category receiving a Tokyo 2020 berth.
