The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK), or Baku–Tbilisi–Akhalkalaki–Kars railway (BTAK), is an international rail link project connecting Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, which became operational on 30 October 2017 following several years of delays. The project was originally due to be completed by 2010, but was delayed to 2013, 2015, 2016, and, following a fifth trilateral meeting in February 2016, foreign ministers of the three countries announced that the railway would finally be completed in 2017.

Flame Towers is a group of three skyscrapers in Baku, Azerbaijan. The height of the tallest tower is 182 m (597 ft). The three flame-shaped towers are intended to symbolize the elements of fire, and are a reference to Azerbaijan's nickname "The Land of Fire", historically rooted in a region where natural gas flares emit from the ground and Zoroastrian worshippers considered flames to be a symbol of the divine. A three-flame motif also appears on the coat of arms of Baku. The three buildings consist of 130 residential apartments over 33 floors, a Fairmont hotel tower that consists of 250 rooms and 61 serviced apartments, and office blocks that provides a net 33,114 square meters of office space. In June 2014 Lamborghini opened its first branch in Azerbaijan, located on the ground floor of the East tower of the Flame Towers.

It took place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 12 to 28 June 2015, and featured almost 6,000 athletes from 50 countries competing in 30 sports, including 15 summer Olympic and 2 non-Olympic sports.

The fencing competitions at the 2015 European Games in Baku were held from 23 to 27 June 2015 at the Crystal Hall 3. Twelve events were contested. This is two more than the Olympic Games programme, and means all three formats had a team event in each gender.

Russia still had the largest team at the Games, with the athletics programme consisting of only one event. Russia finished in the first place on the medal rankings, winning 79 gold medals.

The Baku City Circuit is a motor racing street circuit located in Baku, Azerbaijan constructed near Baku Boulevard. A lap of the circuit is 6.003 km (3.730 mi), making it the third-longest circuit on the Formula One calendar. The inaugural Formula One race at the circuit was the 2016 European Grand Prix and its support events. A year later, in 2017, the circuit held the inaugural Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Sagi Aharon Muki is an Israeli half-middleweight judoka. Muki is the 2019 World Champion. He also won the 2015 and 2018 European championships.

Kristin Kuuba is an Estonian badminton player. She was a bronze medalist at the 2015 European Junior Championships in the girls' doubles event with her partner Helina Rüütel. Kuuba competed at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics; 2015 Baku and 2019 Minsk European Games; and at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 2018–19 Azerbaijan Premier League was the 27th season of the Azerbaijan Premier League. It was won by defending champions Qarabağ. The season began on 11 August 2018.
