Braddock (or Bradock) was launched in 1815, at Workington or Maryport. She spent most of her career sailing to the United States and the West Indies. In 1828 she made a voyage to Calcutta under a license from the British East India Company (EIC). Her crew abandoned her in a sinking state on 21 January 1829, as she was returning to England from Bengal.
Bradock first appeared in Lloyd's Register (LR) in 1816 with Jackson, master, Bradock, owner, and trade Liverpool–Savannah. [1]
On 21 November 1816, Braddock, Johnson, master, was on shore at the Nole, near Savannah. Braddock was on a voyage from Liverpool to Savannah. [3] [4]

In 1813 the EIC had lost its monopoly on the trade between India and Britain. British ships were then free to sail to India or the Indian Ocean under a license from the EIC. [5]
On 22 September 1828, Braddock sailed from Calcutta for Liverpool. On 31 January 1829 Chatham, Bragg, master, encountered Bradock at 3°18′N24°18′W / 3.300°N 24.300°W . Bradock was in a sinking state with six feet of water in her hold. Chatham took off the crew. [6] Another report has her crew abandoning Bradock, Wyngates, master, on 21 January at 3°N25°W / 3°N 25°W . [7] A third source has the same date and location as the previous, but adds the information that Braddock had lost her bulwarks, and that three crew members had died after their rescue by Chatham. Lloyd's Register (1829) has the annotation "abandoned" to her entry. [10]
Albion was a sailing ship of two decks and three masts, built at Bristol, England, and launched in 1813. She made three voyages transporting convicts to Van Diemen's Land and New South Wales. She also traded with Jamaica, India, and Quebec. For two of the voyages to India she was an "extra" ship to the British East India Company (EIC).
Woodford was launched at Bristol in 1819. She made one voyage as an "extra ship" for the British East India Company (EIC). She also made two voyages transporting convicts from England to Van Diemen's Land. She sank in February 1829 off Madagascar.
Welton was launched at Hull in 1809. She first traded between Hull and Quebec and then later with South America and the Caribbean. Lastly, she traded with India. She was lost in 1817 at Bengal.
True Briton was launched at Pont Neuf, Quebec, in 1811. Her primary trade was sailing between Britain and New Brunswick, but she also sailed to Jamaica, and made two voyages to India. Her crew abandoned her in the Atlantic in 1822.
Stirling was built in 1812 at Montreal, Quebec. She apparently traded out of Liverpool as a West Indiaman. There is little evidence that she traded as an East Indiaman. She was last listed in 1821 and a vessel named Sterling, sailing out of Quebec, was wrecked in November 1821.
Ajax was launched in 1811 at South Shields. She was initially a London-based transport, but from 1816 became an East Indiaman, sailing between Britain and India. She was condemned at Calcutta in 1822.
Christopher was launched in Quebec in 1811. She transferred her registry to Britain, and then sailed between Quebec and Britain. She made one voyage to India under license from the British East India Company (EIC). She was last listed in 1820.
Liverpool was launched at Calcutta in 1815. She traded between Britain and India under a license from the EIC, and was lost in May 1823.
Glenmore was launched in 1806 at Elgin. She was initially a West Indiaman. She made one voyage to Bengal in 1813–14. She became a Greenland whaler in 1818 and made four full whaling voyages. She was lost in the White Sea in 1822.
Aberdeen was launched at Quebec in 1811. She sailed to England and then traded between Quebec and Britain. She made two voyages to India under license from the British East India Company (EIC). After her return from the second, in 1820, she was no longer listed.
Lord Wellington was launched in 1811 at Whitby as a London-based transport. She made one voyage to India c. 1816. She sank in May 1823 after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic.
Enchantress was launched in 1828 at Bristol as a West Indiaman. She then traded with India as an East Indiaman, sailing under a license issued by the British East India Company (EIC). She next transported convicts to Van Diemen's Land. She was wrecked in February 1837 at Bermuda.
Boyne was built in 1822 in Newcastle upon Tyne as a West Indiaman. In 1824–1825 she made one voyage to Bengal for the British East India Company (EIC)). She next made one voyage to Bombay under a license from the EIC. She then returned to the West Indies trade. Her crew abandoned her on 18 August 1830 in a sinking state as she was sailing from Jamaica to London.
Princess Charlotte was launched in 1815 at Whitehaven. She made several voyages to India, sailing under a license issued by the British East India Company (EIC). She was last listed in 1841, though she apparently sailed for at least another two years.
Kent was launched at Chittagong in 1814. Between 1814 and 1823 Kent sailed between India and Great Britain under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). In 1823 she was sold in England. From then until she was last listed in 1831 she sailed between Liverpool and Africa.
Cyrus was launched in 1811 in Whitby. She spent her early career as a transport. Then after the war she made one or more voyages to Bengal and Ceylon under a license from the British East India Company. After her return she traded between Great Britain and North America. She was wrecked at Quebec in November 1844.
Lord Collingwood was launched in 1806 at South Shields. She initially served as a transport. Then from 1816 on she started sailing to India under a license from the British East India Company (EIC). In 1828 her crew abandoned Lord Collingwood at sea.
The ship Clydesdale was launched at Bay of Quick, Greenock in 1819. She sailed as an East Indiaman under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). She was condemned at Mauritius circa June 1827 as unseaworthy while homeward bound from Bengal.
Miranda was launched in Bristol in 1828. In 1829–1830 she made one voyage to Bengal, sailing under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). On her return she became a West Indiaman, sailing to Jamaica and Antigua. She was broken up around 1851.
Bengal was launched at Greenock in February 1815. She was the first vessel built in Scotland for the East India trade. She immediately made three voyages to India, sailing under a licence from the British East India Company (EIC). She then traded with the United States, alternating that with other voyages to India. In 1819, on one voyage to India, she was anchored at Calcutta and the venue for a party that resulted in her captain, surgeon, and about a fifth of the guests all dying within days of an unknown disease. She was wrecked in about 1847.
