Bravo! Vail is an annual classical music festival held in Vail, Colorado. Its current artistic director is Anne-Marie McDermott.
The six-week-long festival begins in late June and ends in early August. Programming consists of chamber music, classical music, jazz, and pops concerts provided by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic along with chamber music artists. [1]
London's acclaimed Academy of St Martin in the Fields, led by violinist Joshua Bell, was added to the orchestral roster in 2016, making Bravo! Vail a four-orchestra festival. The Academy was both the first international and the first chamber orchestra residency in Bravo's history. In 2019, the Chamber Orchestra Vienna – Berlin featuring German violinist Anne Sophie Mutter will fill this fourth orchestra slot, opening the Bravo! Vail season in their North American and snowstorm debut. [2] In 2021, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra opened the Festival, returning in 2022 to open as well.
Bravo! Vail was founded in 1987 by John Giovando and Ida Kavafian. [3]
Orchestral performances by the National Repertory Orchestra and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra formed the early chamber concert series. The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra joined the festival in 1989 and left in 2008. [4] The Detroit Symphony Orchestra joined the festival in 1995, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 1999, the New York Philharmonic in 2003, and The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2007.
Flutist Eugenia Zukerman became the festival's artistic director in 1988. [3] In 2011, pianist Anne-Marie McDermott replaced Zukerman. [5]
In 2012, Giovando retired and James W. Palermo, who had recently served as CEO of the Colorado Symphony Association, became Bravo! Vail’s new executive director. [6] Giovando returned to serve as interim executive director in December 2014. [7]
In 2016, Jennifer Teisinger, formerly of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony, became the Festival's new executive director. [8]
Caitlin Murray accepted the position of executive director in 2018. Murray has been associated with Bravo! Vail since 2009, most recently serving as the Vice President of Development. [9]

Claudio Abbado was an Italian conductor who was one of the leading conductors of his generation. He served as music director of the La Scala opera house in Milan, principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Vienna State Opera, founder and director of Lucerne Festival Orchestra, founder and director of Mahler Chamber Orchestra, founding Artistic Director of Orchestra Mozart, music director of European Union Youth Orchestra, and principal conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra.
Zubin Mehta is an Indian conductor of Western and Eastern classical music. He is music director emeritus of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) and conductor emeritus of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Andrew Litton is an American orchestral conductor. Litton is a graduate of The Fieldston School. He studied piano with Nadia Reisenberg and conducting with Sixten Ehrling at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, receiving his Bachelor of Music degree and his Master of Music degree from in piano and conducting. He also received lessons in conducting from Walter Weller at the Salzburg Mozarteum and Edoardo Müller in Milan. His early teachers included John DeMaio. The youngest-ever winner of the BBC International Conductors Competition in 1982, he served as Assistant Conductor at Teatro alla Scala and Exxon/Arts Endowment Assistant Conductor for the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. under Mstislav Rostropovich (1982-1985), where subsequently he was Associate Conductor (1985-1986). Litton was a participant in the Affiliate Artists Exxon-Arts Endowment Conductors Program. In 2003, he was awarded Yale University's Sanford Medal.
Christopher Chapman Rouse III was an American composer. Though he wrote for various ensembles, Rouse is primarily known for his orchestral compositions, including a Requiem, a dozen concertos, and six symphonies. His work received numerous accolades, including the Kennedy Center Friedheim Award, the Grammy Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition, and the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He also served as the composer-in-residence for the New York Philharmonic from 2012 to 2015.

Daniel Hege is an American orchestral conductor. He is currently the music director of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra and the Binghamton Philharmonic, and is the principal guest conductor of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. Hege previously served as the music director of the former Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. He also makes numerous guest appearances with orchestras and music festivals across the country.

Her voice was described in The Washington Post as "remarkable" combining the "range, warmth and facility of a Rossini mezzo with shimmering, round high notes and exquisite pianissimos."
The Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1958, is a professional symphony orchestra based in Boulder, Colorado. It is led by Music Director Michael Butterman. The Boulder Philharmonic’s season at Macky Auditorium on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus and other venues includes classical music, pops, school and family concerts, as well as an annual production of The Nutcracker with Boulder Ballet.

Eugenia Rich Zukerman is an American flutist, writer, and journalist. An internationally renowned flute virtuoso, Zukerman has been performing with major orchestras and at major music festivals internationally for more than three decades. Since 1980 she has been the Classical Music Correspondent for CBS News Sunday Morning where she has profiled hundreds of artists. She was the Artistic Director of the lauded Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival from 2003 to 2010.
Ward Stare is an American conductor. Stare was the Music Director for the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra until 2021 when he was succeeded by Andreas Delfs, and was formerly the Resident Conductor of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra – a position created for him in the fall of 2008 by Music Director David Robertson – and concurrently acted as Music Director of the Saint Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Josep Caballé Domenech is a Spanish musician and conductor. Caballé Domenech has recently been appointed Principal Conductor of the Moritzburg Festival Germany) and he is also in his eighth season as Music Director of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic(USA). Kenji Bunch is an American composer and violist living in Portland, Oregon. Bunch currently serves as the Artistic Director of Fear No Music and teaches at Portland State University, Reed College, and for the Portland Youth Philharmonic.

The National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) is an American summer symphony orchestra that offers full fellowships to train young professional musicians for careers in music through performances, masterclasses and workshops. Based in Breckenridge, Colorado since 1993, its members, who range in age from 18 to 29, are selected from auditions held each year throughout the United States. NRO presents a summer music festival including two orchestral programs per week conducted by its Music Director, Michael Stern. The orchestra was founded in 1960 by cellist and conductor Walter Charles. Carl Topilow was Music Director from 1978 - 2020 and continues with the orchestra as the Music Advisor. The NRO was formerly known as the Blue Jeans Symphony based in Estes Park, Colorado, and later as the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra based in Evergreen, Colorado.
