Breaking the Cycle is a 2024 Thai political documentary directed by Aekaphong Saransate and Thankrit Duangmaneeporn. [1] [2] The film chronicles the establishment of the Future Forward Party by Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit and the party's subsequent dissolution. [3] The film was first shown at the 2024 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, and was subsequently shown in Thai theaters. [4] [5]

Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit is a Thai businessman, politician and activist who served as Leader of the Future Forward Party from 2018 until the party dissolved in 2020. From 2002 to 2018, Thanathorn was the vice president of the Thai Summit Group, Thailand's largest auto parts manufacturer.

Piyabutr Saengkanokkul is a Thai academic, activist, former politician, and Secretary-General of the Progressive Movement, a socio-political group. He served as a member of the Thai House of Representatives and was the first and only Secretary-General for the Future Forward Party, which he co-founded in 2018. Prior to his political career, Piyabutr was an associate professor at the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University. He has worked as a constitutional law professor for more than 16 years. The House of Representatives of Thailand of 2019 consists of 500 members elected in the 24 March 2019 general election, who, together with 250 members of the appointed Senate, form the National Assembly of Thailand. It is the first parliament convened in accordance with the 2017 constitution, which followed the 2014 military coup. Its lower house was the first since the coup to be elected, while the Senate was appointed by the National Council for Peace and Order, the military junta that came to power in the coup.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Move Forward Party</span> Former political party in Thailand

The Move Forward Party was a social democratic and progressive political party in Thailand. Its flagship agenda was to amend Thailand's strict lèse-majesté laws, which forbid the insult of the monarchy. It opposed the remaining influence of the military junta which ruled the country from 2014 to 2019. It was founded in 2014 as the Ruam Pattana Chart Thai Party and later changed its name to the Phung Luang Party, but after the 2019 Thai general election, reverted to its original name. It obtained its current name in 2020 after becoming the de facto successor to the dissolved Future Forward Party. The party was dissolved by the Constitutional Court on 7 August 2024 for violating the constitution by proposing an amendment of a law against insulting the monarchy known as Article 112. The party is succeeded by the People's Party (พรรคประชาชน), with Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut as the party leader.

The People's Party is the successor party of the former Move Forward Party following its dissolution by the Constitutional Court of Thailand on 7 August 2024. Originally founded in 2012 as the Thinkakhao Party and later the Thinkakhao Chaovilai Party, it was renamed into the People's Party as a successor to the Move Forward Party on 9 August 2024. It is the third incarnation of the Future Forward Party, which was dissolved on 21 February 2020.
