A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific filmmaker, genre of film, or subject matter. Several film festivals focus solely on presenting short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians, including Jerry Beck, do not consider film festivals as official releases of the film.
The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, attracting over 480,000 people annually. Gerry Rogers is a Canadian documentary filmmaker and politician. She was leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party from 2018 until 2019. The YoungCuts Film Festival is an international film festival based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, whose mandate is to advance the careers of young filmmakers. Originally established in Toronto in 2001, the festival was created to identify and help talented young people begin their film and television careers by providing exposure and recognition of their works. In 2007, the festival moved to Montreal. The annual event selects the best 100 films of the year from more than 1,000 submissions by filmmakers 29 years old and under. In 2016, the festival moved from Montreal to Vancouver.
The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) is a comic book festival held annually in Toronto, Ontario. Founded in 2003, TCAF has grown to become one of the world’s largest festivals dedicated to the promotion and appreciation of comic arts.
Baring It All is a documentary film about fashion photographer David Jay and The SCAR Project, a series of photographic portraits of young women in various stages of breast cancer and other hormonal cancers. Directed by filmmaker Patricia Zagarella of Lost In Vision Entertainment, the film was picked up by the Style Network as part of their "Style Exposed" documentary series and first aired on Style on July 9, 2011.
The SCAR Project is a series of large-scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors shot by fashion photographer David Jay.
About Her is a Canadian documentary film, directed by Phyllis Ellis and aired in 2011. Narrated by Kim Cattrall, the film profiles a number of women battling the HER2 strain of breast cancer.
