The 1976 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXI Olympiad and commonly known as Montreal 1976, were an international multi-sport event held from July 17 to August 1, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Montreal was awarded the rights to the 1976 Games at the 69th IOC Session in Amsterdam on May 12, 1970, over the bids of Moscow and Los Angeles. It was the first and, so far, only Summer Olympic Games to be held in Canada. Toronto hosted the 1976 Summer Paralympics the same year as the Montreal Olympics, which still remains the only Summer Paralympics to be held in Canada. Calgary and Vancouver later hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1988 and 2010, respectively.
Riverdance is a theatrical show consisting mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. With a score composed by Bill Whelan, it originated as an interval performance act during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, featuring Irish dancing champions Jean Butler, Michael Flatley and the vocal ensemble Anúna. Shortly afterwards, husband and wife production team John McColgan and Moya Doherty expanded it into a stage show, which opened in Dublin on 9 February 1995. Since then, the show has visited over 450 venues worldwide and been seen by over 25 million people, making it one of the most successful dance productions in the world.
Michael Carruth is a southpaw Irish Olympic boxer from Dublin. He is best known for winning the welterweight gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He turned Pro in 1994 but retired in 2000.

Howard Edward Davis Jr. was an American amateur and professional boxer. Growing up on Long Island as the eldest of 10 children, Davis first learned boxing from his father. After being inspired by a movie about Muhammad Ali, Davis embarked on his amateur career. He won the 1976 Olympic gold medal one week after his mother died. He was also awarded the Val Barker Trophy at the Olympics, beating out such boxers as Sugar Ray Leonard, Michael Spinks and Leon Spinks.
Payao Poontarat was a Thai boxer who, at the age of 18, won the bronze medal in the men's Light flyweight (-48 kg) category at the 1976 Summer Olympics. He was the first Thai athlete to win an Olympic medal in any sport.
Ku Yong-jo was a boxer from North Korea, who won the gold medal in the bantamweight (–54 kg) division at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In the final, he defeated American boxer Charles Mooney. In 1980, he competed in the featherweight division and, after receiving a first-round bye, lost his first bout to Krzysztof Kosedowski of Poland.
Orlando Maldonado is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer who competed from 1977 to 1984, challenging for the WBC super flyweight title in 1983. As an amateur, he won the bronze medal in the men's light flyweight division at the 1976 Summer Olympics. It was the second medal ever for Puerto Rico, after boxer Juan Evangelista Venegas captured the Bronze medal in 1948.

Brendan Emmet Irvine, nicknamed the "Wee Rooster", is an Irish amateur boxer from Belfast. He won a silver medal in the men's 49 kg division at the 2015 European Games, becoming the first ever medalist for Ireland at the Games. He moved up to the 52 kg weight class in 2016, winning another Irish senior title and also competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In 2017 Irvine won another major medal for Ireland for the European championships finishing in top 3 taking away a bronze medal. The next year he went in to the CWG in the Gold Coast Australia bagging another silver medal for NI. Inactive for 2019 with a few injury's he came back hungry as ever and qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo beating a tricky boxer from Hungary in the Europeans Olympic qualifier taking him to the top 8 spot.

Noboru Uchiyama is a retired Japanese amateur boxer. He won a bronze medal at the 1974 Asian Games and competed at the 1976 Olympics, where he was eliminated in the first bout.
