Brian Backhouse (7 May 1948 – 13 September 2003) [1] was an Australian rules footballer who played with North Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Originally comprising only teams based in the Australian state of Victoria, the competition's name was changed to the Australian Football League for the 1990 season, after expanding to other states throughout the 1980s.

Backhouse, a rover, was recruited from Colac Imperials. [2] He made six league appearances for North Melbourne, all in the 1968 VFL season. [3] At the end of the year he was delisted by North Melbourne and later played at Waverley. [4] [5]

The 1968 Victorian Football League season was the 72nd season of the elite Australian rules football competition.

Waverley Football Club, nicknamed the Panthers, was an Australian rules football club which played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1961 until 1987. Waverley wore red and black as their club colours and was based at Central Reserve in the Melbourne suburb of Glen Waverley.
