"Overprotected" is a song by American singer Britney Spears from her third studio album, Britney (2001). It was written and produced by Max Martin and Rami. The song was released on December 10, 2001, by Jive Records as the second international single from Britney. "Overprotected" is a dance-pop song about a girl who is tired of being overprotected and just wants to be herself. The song received generally positive reviews from music critics. Its remixed R&B form, produced by Darkchild, was released as the third US single from Britney on April 2, 2002.

Willa Was Here is the debut and to-date only studio album by American pop singer Willa Ford, released on July 17, 2001 in the United States on the former Atlantic imprint Lava Records. The album debuted and peaked at number fifty-six on the Billboard 200 chart and lasted only two months on the chart. It spawned the top twenty-five hit single "I Wanna Be Bad", which sold over 250,000 copies, as well as "Did Ya' Understand That", which failed to chart. Ford wrote it alongside Brian Kierulf and Josh Schwartz, who both handled the production, when her record label, MCA Records, told her to tone down her music. Ford refused, deciding to create a track with a rebellious message. After Jason Flom of Lava Records heard the song, he signed Ford to the label and included it on Willa Was Here. Lava and Atlantic Records released the song as Ford's debut single and the lead one from the album on April 24, 2001. A pop and dance-pop track, it has Ford explaining that she wants to be a "bad girl" because her partner makes bad behavior look so good. The lyrics contain messages of rebellion and being oneself against the influences of other people.

HitClips is a digital audio player created by Tiger Electronics that plays low-fidelity mono one-minute clips of usually teen pop hits from exchangeable cartridges. It first launched in August 2000 with 60-second microchip songs featuring Britney Spears, NSYNC, and Sugar Ray. The following year songs by Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys, Dream, and Pink were additionally released. There is a version for young children called KidClips. Tiger Electronics had licensing agreements for HitClips with popular major record labels including Atlantic Records, Jive Records/Zomba Label Group, and Capitol Records. HitClips was first promoted by McDonald's, Radio Disney, and Lunchables. By June 2002, HitClips players and music disks combined had sold more than 20 million units.

Dance in the Rain is the fourth studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Ricki-Lee Coulter, released on 17 October 2014 by EMI Music Australia. Coulter began working on Dance in the Rain shortly after the completion of her previous album Fear & Freedom (2012). Recording and production took place in various places around the world over two years. Coulter was the executive producer of the album and collaborated with many songwriters, including Brian Kierulf, Brian Lee, David Schuler, Ilan Kidron, Stuart Crichton, Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers. Musically, Dance in the Rain incorporates styles of pop, dance, R&B and reggae.
The 2001 Teen Choice Awards ceremony was held on August 12, 2001, at the Universal Amphitheatre, Universal City, California. The event had no designated host but David Spade introduced the show with Aaron Carter and Nick Carter, Usher, Eve and Gwen Stefani and Shaggy as performers. Sarah Michelle Gellar received the Extraordinary Achievement Award. The ceremony was broadcast on Fox TV on August 20, 2001.
