Brian Rice (born 1936) [1] is a British abstract artist associated with the pop art movement who has had 35 solo exhibitions and around 200 group exhibitions. [2]
Rice studied at Yeovil School of Art where he learned about printmaking and for a year Goldsmiths College. He was very active in London during the 1960s where he produced non-representational prints and paintings including his Japanese Series. He worked mostly in screen printing at this time. [3]
During the 1970s Rice lived in the West of England and taught at Brighton Polytechnic. He developed an interest in the remains of ancient cultures which has influenced his work to the present. [3]
Rice was chairman of the Printmakers Council of Great Britain 1974 - 1977. He has works in the collection of Tate Modern. [4]
The Turner Prize, named after the English painter J. M. W. Turner, is an annual prize presented to a British visual artist. Between 1991 and 2016, only artists under the age of 50 were eligible. The prize is awarded at Tate Britain every other year, with various venues outside of London being used in alternate years. Since its beginnings in 1984 it has become the UK's most publicised art award. The award represents all media.

Sir Peter Thomas Blake is an English pop artist, best known for co-creating the sleeve design for the Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. His other best known works include the covers for two of The Who's albums, the cover of the Band Aid single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", and the Live Aid concert poster. Blake also designed the 2012 Brit Award statuette.

Richard William Hamilton CH was an English painter and collage artist. His 1955 exhibition Man, Machine and Motion and his 1956 collage Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing?, produced for the This Is Tomorrow exhibition of the Independent Group in London, are considered by critics and historians to be among the earliest works of pop art. A major retrospective of his work was at Tate Modern until May 2014.
Paul Nash was a British surrealist painter and war artist, as well as a photographer, writer and designer of applied art. Nash was among the most important landscape artists of the first half of the twentieth century. He played a key role in the development of Modernism in English art.
Sir Michael Craig-Martin is an Irish-born contemporary conceptual artist and painter. The Redfern Gallery is an exhibition space in the West End of London specialising in contemporary British art. It was founded by Arthur Knyvett-Lee and Anthony Maxtone Graham in 1923 as an artists' cooperative on the top floor of Redfern House, 27 Old Bond Street, and in 1936 moved to nearby 20 Cork Street.

Auguste Renoir painted two very similar versions of Blonde Bather in 1881 and 1882. The model was Aline Charigot, later to become Renoir's wife. Influenced by Renaissance painting that Renoir saw in Italy in 1881, both paintings show a marked change of style from Renoir's previous work. Some commentators consider these are works of great beauty, others that they are vulgar. There has been criticism of the conservation work performed on the 1881 painting.
