British Garden Centres (legally incorporated as Woodthorpe Hall Garden Centres Ltd.), is a British chain of garden centres based in Alford, Lincolnshire, England. [1] By 2022, it operated over sixty locations. [2] [3] It is the second largest operator of garden centres in the UK, after Dobbies. [4]
The company was started by Charles Stubbs in 1990. Its first garden centre was Woodthorpe Hall, built on a farm. [5] In 2010, it acquired its fifth garden centre. [6]
In 2018, the firm operated ten garden centres. [4]
In 2019, the company acquired 37 garden centres from Wyevale Garden Centres. [7] In December 2019, the firm completed its acquisition of Hillview, a chain of eight garden centres. [8]
In March 2022, the company changed its logo, with the new design incorporating a red butterfly. [9] The logo formerly had a poppy. [10]

By May 2019, Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores & its independent dealers & franchisees operated a total of 639 stores across 49 states as well as in Puerto Rico & Bermuda. On June 3, 2019, it was announced that Transform Holdco would acquire Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores. As per the deal, Sears Hometown needed to divest its Sears Outlet division to gain approval. The company ceased to exist on October 23, 2019, when Franchise Group acquired the Sears Outlet division and Transform Holdco acquired the rest of the company.
