Eugenio María de Hostos Community College of The City University of New York is a public community college in the South Bronx, New York City. Ernest Brown is an American former professional basketball player who was selected in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft by the Miami Heat. He played collegiately for the Indian Hills Community College. He played three games for them during the 2001-02 NBA season before being waived, and was also later signed and waived by the Boston Celtics; he has spent most of his career in the NBDL and other minor/foreign leagues. His final NBA game was played on April 14, 2002 in a 67 - 94 loss to the New York Knicks. In that game, Brown recorded 3 points, 4 rebounds and 1 block.

The Fordham Rams men's basketball team represents Fordham University, located in the Bronx, New York, in NCAA Division I basketball competition. They compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Rams play their home games at the Rose Hill Gymnasium (3,200), the nation's oldest on-campus collegiate basketball arena still in use. On February 28, 1940, Fordham University played in the nation's first televised college basketball game, when the Rams fell to Pitt at Madison Square Garden. Fordham hired former assistant coach Keith Urgo on April 28, 2022.

The Manhattan Jaspers men's basketball team is the basketball team that represents Manhattan College in The Bronx, New York City, New York, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They have won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament championship five times. The Jaspers have had three players named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, most recently Luis Flores in 2003. Luis Flores is also the Manhattan Jaspers all-time leading scorer with 2046 points from 2001-2004. Their current head coach is John Gallagher, who was hired from the University of Hartford in March of 2023.

James "Speedy" Williams is a streetball basketball player from the Bronx, NY who has been called a "Rucker Park legend". He attended Morris High School in the Bronx. He played at Medgar Evers College where he averaged 26 points per game, later going on to play with the Harlem Globetrotters and the Continental Basketball Association. He played 10 seasons with the United States Basketball League and the Harlem Wizards.

St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School was a four-year, coeducational Catholic high school located in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. A parochial school operated by the parish of the same name, St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, it opened in 1927 and closed in 1991, after years of declining enrollment. The final class of 68 students graduated on June 14, 1991.
