Brooke Aspin (born 1 July 2005) is an English professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Women's Super League club Crystal Palace, on loan from Chelsea, and the England under-23s. She has previously captained England at both under-17 and under-19 youth level.
Aspin is a product of the Bristol City academy, having joined at the age of 14, and began training with the first team in August 2021, making her senior debut at the age of 16. [1] [2]
She missed the majority of the 2022–23 season after contracting sepsis, [3] spending time in hospital and receiving surgery, [4] before making her season debut from the bench against Durham. [5]
On 3 April 2023, Aspin scored her first goal for the club against Charlton Athletic in a 4–0 victory, helping the team to win the Women's Championship, and secure promotion back to the WSL. [6] [7]
In July 2023, Aspin signed a four-year contract with Chelsea on a free transfer, after manager Emma Hayes described tracking the player for the past three years. [8] [9]
In July 2023, Aspin was loaned back to Bristol City for the 2023–24 season. [10]
On 5 November 2023, Aspin scored her first WSL goal from a header in a 3–2 victory over West Ham, helping to secure City's first WSL win the 2023–24 WSL season. [11] [12]
On 22 May 2024, Aspin returned to Chelsea after her loan spell. [13]
On 7 September 2024, Aspin joined newly promoted Women's Super League club Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the 2024–25 season. [14] [15] On 22 September, she was sent off after receiving a second yellow card during stoppage time against Tottenham Hotspur, [16] and served a one match ban again her parent club Clelsea the following week. Aspin has captained the under-17s and under-19s, and currently represents the under-23s. Her international career ambitions include captaining the senior team to win a World Cup final. [18]
In November 2021, Aspin was first named as part of England's development youth team. [19]
In March 2022, she was named as part of the under-17 squad for 2022 U -17 Championship qualification, [20] where she captained the team against France and Poland, [21] [22] followed by scoring her first youth international goal in an 8–0 victory against Croatia as a substitute. [23]
In September 2023, Aspin was included in the under-19 squad, [24] playing against Denmark in a 3–3 victory, [25] and captaining the team against Germany to a 3–3 draw. [26] On 22 November 2023, she was named as part of the under-23 squad for matches against France and Spain, [27] although remained at Bristol City awaiting injury assessment. [28]
On 24 October 2024, Aspin made her debut for the under-23s against Netherlands. [29]

Bristol City Women's Football Club is a women's association football team from the city of Bristol. Formed in 1998 as Bristol Rovers W.F.C., they were renamed Bristol Academy W.F.C. in 2005 following the withdraw of support from Bristol Rovers and increased involvement and academy development from Bristol Academy of Sport, part of South Gloucestershire and Stroud College. A second change of name, this time to Bristol City was approved by the FA Women's Football Board in time for the 2016 WSL season. With their home games relocating from SGS College's Stoke Gifford Stadium to the Robins High Performance Centre and now Ashton Gate Stadium. Bristol City Women won promotion to the FA Women's Super League (WSL), the highest level of the women's game in England in 2016 and stayed there for five seasons before being relegated to the FA Women's Championship in 2021.
Lauren Elizabeth James is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Women's Super League (WSL) club Chelsea and the England women's national team.
