Brooke Miller is a Canadian singer-songwriter and musician.

Early life

Miller was born in Montague, Prince Edward Island, Canada on January 14, 1982. [1] She played saxophone as a child [2] and took up the guitar when she was ten years old. [2] Around age 11 she began writing her own songs and at age 12 formed a trio that eventually toured the Maritimes as an opening act for other bands. [3]

Career

Miller released her first independent CD, Lending an Hourglass, in 2003. [4] A fellow musician, Don Ross, produced her follow-up CD and Miller later married him. [4] She was signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing in New York City [4] and released the album You Can See Everything on Sony's Hickory Records in 2007. [5] The album was produced by Ross and Peter Lubin, and mixed by Frank Filipetti. [6]

In 2010 Miller released the self-produced album Shake It Off on Candyrat Records. [7] In 2011, her self-titled album featuring new material, and new versions of previously released songs, was issued on the Universal Music Group label.[ citation needed ] In 2012, Miller released an audiophile SACD/LP recording, entitled "Familiar", on the German hi-fi label Stockfisch Records.[ citation needed ]

Miller reports that her music has been influenced by Leon Redbone, Ricki Lee Jones, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Cockburn, Ani DiFranco, Joni Mitchell and The Police. [1] [3]

MTV Unplugged is a live EP by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey, released in the United States on June 2, 1992, by Columbia Records. Following the success of Carey's previous two albums and the growing critical commentary on her lack of concert tours and unsubstantial televised performances, Sony organized a live performance show at the Kaufman Astoria Studios, New York on March 16, 1992. The show, titled MTV Unplugged, originally aired on MTV to help promote Carey's second album Emotions, as well as help shun critics who deemed Carey a possible studio artist. However, after its success, the show was released to the public as an EP, with an accompanying VHS titled MTV Unplugged +3.
