Bruce Rollinson

Bruce Rollinson (born October 13, 1949) is a former high school football coach best known for his 34-year tenure as head coach at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California, where he established the program as one of the nation's top high school football teams, winning multiple CIF Southern Section championships and national titles. Rollinson announced his retirement in November 2022. [1] In 2023, he was inducted into the CIF Southern Section Hall of Fame. [2] He is a Mater Dei alumnus and played college football at the University of Southern California.

He played college football for the USC Trojans, earning consensus All-American in 2004. He was signed by the NFL's Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2005, and also played for the CFL's Calgary Stampeders in 2009.

Ellis was considered to be one of the premier high school basketball players in the nation among the class of 1987 while playing for the top-ranked Southern California prep school squad Mater Dei. Ellis was drafted into the NBA after a mixed college basketball performance at the University of Kentucky and Syracuse University. He suffered several unsuccessful stints in the NBA over three non-consecutive seasons but spent the majority of his professional basketball career playing overseas.

Matthew Montgomery Barkley is an American professional football quarterback who is a free agent. He played college football for the USC Trojans, setting set the Pac-12 Conference season record for touchdown passes as a junior. Due to suffering a shoulder injury in his senior season, Barkley was not selected until the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. He has been a member of 11 different NFL teams, mostly as a backup. Barkley had his most notable stint with the Chicago Bears in 2016 where he served as the team's starter.

Mike Giddings was an American football player, coach and scout. A 1951 graduate of South Pasadena High School where he was a multi-sport athlete, Giddings played college football for the California Golden Bears under head coach Pappy Waldorf. After graduation in 1955, Giddings was drafted and spent two years serving in the United States Marine Corps. Giddings began his coaching career in 1957 at Monrovia High School in Monrovia, California, where he coached football, basketball, and baseball while also teaching mathematics. After coaching the Bee team his first two years, Giddings was elevated to head coach of the varsity football team in 1959, leading the Wildcats to an 11–1 record and the CIF-Southern Section finals. In 1960, he was named head coach at Glendale Community College in Glendale, California, and led the Vaqueros to a 7–2 record and a second-place finish in the Western State Conference. A year later, John McKay hired him at assistant coach at the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a staff member of the 1962 USC Trojans football team, which won a national championship. He served a total of five years on McKay's staff.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Harry Welch (American football)</span> American football coach

Harry Edward Welch Jr. is an American retired high school football coach who is one of the most successful in California prep football history. In a 43-year coaching career, 25 of which were as a head coach, Welch averaged over 10 wins per season. He finished with a career coaching record of 257 wins, 61 losses and 2 ties—an 80.6% winning percentage. Welch is the only California high school football coach to lead three different schools to state championship wins on the field. In that realm he was a perfect 3–0. In late 2009, Welch was recognized by the Los Angeles Daily News as the high school "Football Coach of the Decade," covering the 2000–09 seasons. In the ten-year span, nine of which he coached, Welch's overall record was 100-17 (.855). He boasted double-digit wins the last seven years of the decade that included two state championships and two undefeated campaigns. In 2022, Welch's fruitful career was acknowledged and honored with being chosen to two Halls of Fame—the California Interscholastic Federation – Southern Section (CIF-SS) Hall of Fame and in the inaugural class of the California High School Football Hall of Fame. Although widely known for his football success, Welch's career accomplishments carried beyond athletics. His leadership on the football field was equally paired with his dedication as an academic educator. Welch was a gifted teacher who spent as many years in the classroom as he did on the field.

The Trinity League is a high school athletic conference in Southern California, part of the CIF Southern Section. The League is regarded as one of the most competitive high school leagues in the United States. Most famous for football, the Trinity League is extremely competitive in its other sports as well. Baseball, tennis, and water polo players are top recruits and are some of the most talented Division 1 players in the nation. This makes the Trinity League the toughest league in high school sports. For the fall 2023 season, High School Football America rated it the toughest league in the nation, with the top two nationally ranked teams and five out of the six ranked the top 300. In 2021, three of the six programs had been ranked in the top 10 in the country, with five in the top 200.

Jonathan Tyler Daniels is an American college football coach and former quarterback. He is the offensive analyst for the University of West Georgia, a position he has held since 2024. He played college football for the USC Trojans, Georgia Bulldogs, West Virginia Mountaineers and Rice Owls.

Jim Benkert is an American high school football coach who has held head coaching positions at Westlake High School, Oaks Christian High School, and Simi Valley High School in California. During his tenure at Westlake High School, Benkert led the football team to four CIF Southern Section championships in 1999, 2003, 2009, and 2011. In 2015, he transitioned to Oaks Christian, where he led the team to a CIF Southern Section title in 2017. In 2018, he was hired by Simi Valley, where he led the school to a CIF Southern Section title in 2023. Many of his former players have advanced to college and professional football careers, including Zach Charbonnet, Mike Seidman, Greg Newman, Rudy Carpenter, Nelson Spruce among others.
