Brunei will participate in the ABU Song Contest 2019 .

ABU Song Contest 2019

The ABU Song Contest 2019 will be the inaugural edition of the ABU Song Contest, to be held in Qingdao, China. The contest will consist of a semi-final on 17 October 2019 and a final on 19 October 2019. It is expected to become the first ever televised and big-scale music competition across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond since the ABU Golden Kite World Song Festivals which were held between 1989 and 1991, as well as inspired by a sequence of continuous success of the ABU Song Festivals in recent years, and potentially the Eurovision Song Contest.

Before the contest

On 20 February 2019, Brunei confirmed their participation in the 2019 contest. [1] The national broadcaster RTB announced that they would internally select their participant. [2]

Radio Television Brunei

Radio Television Brunei is the state broadcaster of Brunei. Radio Brunei made its first broadcast on 2 May 1957, with a television service starting on 1 March 1975. Radio Television Brunei also monopolies the free-to-air television in the country, and also radio until 1999, when the country's only commercial radio station, Kristal FM was founded. The network's logo was based from the national emblem of Brunei.

<i>ABU Song Festivals</i>

ABU Song Festivals are annual song competitions based on the Eurovision Song Contest. The format consists of two shows, a Radio Song Festival and TV Song Festival, organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

ABU Radio Song Festival 2012

The ABU Radio Song Festival 2012 was the first edition of the biennial ABU Radio Song Festivals, organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The festival took place in the KBS Hall, which is located in the South Korean capital of Seoul and coincided with the 49th general assembly of the ABU. The ABU Radio Song Festival attracted twenty-six original entries representing eighteen radio broadcasters from fifteen countries, which competed in a preliminary jury round. The juries selected thirteen entries from twelve radio broadcasters in ten countries to qualify for the final show which was held on 11 October 2012. Fifteen entries were originally selected to participate in the grand final. However, Fiji and Sri Lanka withdrew from the radio competition prior to the final show, and thus only thirteen entries participated in the competition on 11 October 2012.

ABU TV Song Festival 2012

The ABU TV Song Festival 2012 was the first annual edition of the ABU TV Song Festivals. The festival, which was non-competitive, took place in the KBS Concert Hall, located in the South Korean capital of Seoul and coincided with the 49th general assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). Eleven countries confirmed their participation in the first edition of the competition.

<i>ABU TV Song Festival</i>

The ABU TV Song Festival is an annual non-competitive gala showcase of songs, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, and is organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). Participating countries which have full or additional full ABU membership are invited to submit a song to be performed in front of a live audience. The television festival which is a non-competitive, musical gala presentation, is live recorded so that each of the national broadcasters may add subtitles in their native languages.

ABU TV Song Festival 2013

The ABU TV Song Festival 2013 was the second annual edition of the ABU TV Song Festivals. The festival, which is non-competitive, that took place on 26 October 2013 in the Hanoi Opera House, Hanoi, Vietnam and coinciding with the 50th general assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) which took place between 23 and 29 October 2013. Sixteen songs from fifteen countries participated in the second edition of the event. Brunei, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, and Thailand made their début at the festival

Brunei in the ABU TV Song Festival

The participation of Brunei in the ABU TV Song Festival has occurred twice since the inaugural ABU TV Song Festival began in 2012. Since their début in 2013, the Brunei entry has been organised by the national broadcaster Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB). Qeez Idrus and Md Hawzan Bin Hj have both represented the nation at the 2013 and 2014 festivals respectively. In 2015, Brunei withdrew from the festival.

ABU TV Song Festival 2015

The ABU TV Song Festival 2015 was the fourth annual edition of the ABU TV Song Festivals. The event, which is non-competitive, took place in Istanbul, Turkey and coinciding with the 52nd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) which was scheduled for 28 October 2015. Twelve countries have confirmed their participation.

ABU Radio Song Festival 2016

The ABU Radio Song Festival 2016 was the fourth edition of the ABU Radio Song Festivals, organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). Originally a biennial event, the festival organisers changed its format to an annual festival commencing from 2014. The festival took place on 26 April 2016 in Beijing, China. Thirteen songs from ten countries took part in the festival. The hosts China, along with Macau, Nepal, Romania, and Turkmenistan all made their début in the festival. Brunei had withdrawn from the festival stating that they had not received an invitation to participate from the broadcasting union. Indonesia failed to qualify from the pre-selection stage of the festival.

Brunei have participated in the ABU Radio Song Festival once. The Bruneian broadcaster, Radio Televisyen Brunei, has been the organiser of the Bruneian entry since the country's debut in the contest in 2012.

ABU Radio Song Festival 2015

The ABU Radio Song Festival 2015 was the third edition of the ABU Radio Song Festivals, organised by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). Originally a biennial event, the festival organisers changed its format to an annual festival commencing from 2014. The festival took place on 29 May 2015 in the city of Yangon, Myanmar. Seventeen songs had been submitted to the event organisers, of which only ten songs from nine countries, were selected to perform at the event. The hosts Myanmar made their début in the festival.

Kyrgyzstan in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest

The participation of Kyrgyzstan in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest first began in Istanbul, Turkey, at the inaugural Bala Turkvision Song Contest in 2015. Kyrgyz Television (KTRK) have been responsible for the selection process of their participants, since their debut in 2015. Aydin Nurdinov was the first representative for Kyrgyzstan at the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Kyrgyz Biy", which finished in fourth place out of thirteen participating entries, achieving a score of one-hundred and eleven points. As of Bala Turkvision 2015, Kyrgyzstan have awarded the most points to Găgăuzia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine. They have received the most points from Albania, Belarus, Găgăuzia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine.

Australia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

The participation of Australia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest first began in Sofia, Bulgaria, at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) an associate member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) was responsible for the selection process of their participants at the 2015 and 2016 contests, with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) taking over the country's participation from the 2017 contest. The first representative to participate for the nation at the 2015 contest was Bella Paige with the song "My Girls", which finished in eighth place out of seventeen participating entries, achieving a score of sixty-four points. Australia continued their participation at the 2016 contest, having internally selected Alexa Curtis with her song "We Are", which finished in fifth place, scoring 202 points. Isabella Clarke in 2017 and Jael Wena in 2018 both placed 3rd, Australia's best results till date. SBS previously broadcast every edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest on a broadcast delay. As of Junior Eurovision 2017, Australia has awarded the most points to Malta, and received the most points from Georgia.

Uzbekistan in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest

The participation of Uzbekistan in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest was originally planned to begin in Istanbul, Turkey, at the inaugural Bala Turkvision Song Contest in 2015. National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan (MTRK) was responsible for the selection process of their participant, for their debut in 2015. Yasmina Garibova was selected internally by the national broadcaster as Uzbekistan's first representative for the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2015. However, they withdrew from the contest for reasons unknown.

Iran in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest

The participation of Iran in the Bala Turkvision Song Contest first began in Istanbul, Turkey, at the inaugural Bala Turkvision Song Contest in 2015. Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) have been responsible for the selection process of their participants, since their debut in 2015. İattila, Roza, Daria, Aylin and Tala were the first representative for Iran at the Bala Turkvision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Ana Dilim", which finished in twelfth place out of thirteen participating entries, achieving a score of ninety points. As of Bala Turkvision 2015, Iran have awarded the most points to Azerbaijan, and Georgia. They have received the most points from Georgia.

Italy will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Italian broadcaster RAI announced in November 2018 that the winning performer(s) of the Sanremo Music Festival 2019 would earn the right to represent the nation at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Eurovision Young Dancers 2019

The Eurovision Young Dancers 2019 was to be the sixteenth edition of the Eurovision Young Dancers competition.

The Maldives will participate in the ABU Song Contest 2019.
