East Renfrewshire is one of 32 council areas of Scotland. Until 1975, it formed part of the county of Renfrewshire for local government purposes along with the modern council areas of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. Although no longer a local authority area, Renfrewshire still remains the registration county and lieutenancy area of East Renfrewshire.
Netherlee is a suburban residential area in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It is situated on the west bank of the White Cart Water about 4 miles (6.5 km) south of Glasgow city centre. Part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation, it is mostly contiguous with the city, and is just beyond the boundary of its local authority area. It is a separate census locality from Glasgow, like other areas such as neighbouring Giffnock and Clarkston. Netherlee is directly contiguous with Stamperland. It is also in a council ward with Clarkston and its neighbour Busby. As of 2012, Netherlee has a population of 4,550.
Eastwood is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood) covering part of the council area of East Renfrewshire. It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is also one of ten constituencies in the West Scotland electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the ten constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.
Clarkston is a suburban town in East Renfrewshire, in the Central Lowlands of Scotland. A dormitory town with a population of around 10,000, Clarkston is on the southern fringe of the Greater Glasgow conurbation and directly adjoins the neighbouring suburban villages of Busby and Netherlee, as well as the towns of Newton Mearns and Giffnock.

Newton Mearns South and Eaglesham is one of the five wards used to elect members of the East Renfrewshire Council. It elects three Councillors.
Avondale and Stonehouse is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects three councillors. Its territory covers the small towns of Strathaven and Stonehouse, the villages of Chapelton and Glassford and a rural hinterland to the west up to the local authority borders with East Ayrshire and East Renfrewshire – a 2017 national boundary review removed a corridor of farmland between the White Cart Water and southern East Kilbride where housebuilding was planned. This review also caused the loss of one seat from the original four despite the electorate increasing slightly, to balance with other wards with similar populations but only three seats. The population in 2019 was 17,089.
Rutherglen South is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Established in 2007, it elects three councillors.
Bothwell and Uddingston is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. It elects three councillors.
Hamilton North and East is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects three councillors. Its territory covers northern parts of Hamilton including the town centre, Barncluith, Burnbank, Chantinghall, Hamilton West and Whitehill, plus the separate village of Ferniegair/Allanton, the eastern boundary formed by the River Clyde. A 2017 national review saw the addition of a few streets at Ballantrae Road and the removal of some territory south of the town centre. In 2019, the ward's population was 15,036.
Hamilton West and Earnock is one of the twenty wards used to elect members of the South Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects four councillors. Its territory covers the suburban south-west of Hamilton including the Brackenhill, Earnock, High Earnock, Highstonehall, Hillhouse, Little Earnock and Udston neighbourhoods, as well as the adjoining modern West Craigs development – these boundaries were unaffected by a 2017 national review. In 2019, the ward's population was 18,618.
Airdrie North is one of the twenty-one wards used to elect members of the North Lanarkshire Council. It elects four councillors and covers northern and eastern parts of Airdrie plus the outlying villages of Caldercruix, Wattston, Plains and Glenmavis. Established in 2007, a boundary review in 2017 resulted in a very minor change. In 2019, the ward's population was 20,137.
