Biography

Zaman was born in Gauripur, Assam to Imadur Rahman Chowdhury and Sharifa Khatun Chowdhury. [1] He was a student of M C College.

Zaman directed films between 1973 and 1990. [2] [3] [4] His direction Puroskar won National Film Awards in 1983 in five categories. [5] He also directed films like Ujan Bhati and Kusum Koli. These films are selected for preservation in Bangladesh Film Archive. [6] [7] Kusum Koli was his last direction which was released in 1990. [8] [9]

Besides direction Zaman also acted in films. He made his acting career debut with Arun Barun Kiron Mala. [1] He also appeared in two television commercials as a model.

Zaman was married to Fatema Zaman. [1] Chowdhury Farhaduzzam is their only son.

Abdur Razzak was a Bangladeshi actor and film director. He was dubbed Nayak Raj Razzak, a term introduced by Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury, editor of the magazine Chitrali. Razzak won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actor five times for his roles in the films Ki Je Kori (1976), Ashikkhito (1978), Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo (1982), Chandranath (1984) and Jogajog (1988). Suchinta Chowdhury Chanchal, known as Chanchal Chowdhury, is a Bangladeshi actor. Critically acclaimed for his performances in Rupkothar Golpo (2006), Monpura (2009), Television (2012), Aynabaji (2016), Debi (2018) and Hawa (2022). He has received two Bangladesh National Film Awards for Best Actor and three Meril Prothom Alo Awards for Best Actor.

The 34th National Film Awards, presented by Ministry of Information, Bangladesh to felicitate the best of Bangladeshi Cinema released in the year 2009. The government announced the names of 28 artistes in 26 categories for the National Film Award in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's film industry. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave away the awards to the artistes. From this year, Government decided to give lifetime achievement award and Sultana Zaman was the first recipient of the award.

Akhtaruzzaman was a Bangladeshi film director. He was awarded the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Director for his direction of the film Poka Makorer Ghor Bosoti (1996). The film won awards in eight different categories.

Nargis Akhter is a Bangladeshi film director, screenwriter and producer. Her first directed film was Meghla Akash. After her first film, she directed various films including Megher Koley Rod (2008), Abujh Bou (2010), and Poush Maser Pirit (2016).

Ahmed Zaman Chowdhury was a Bangladeshi film journalist, screenwriter and lyricist. He won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Screenplay for the film Jadur Banshi (1977). Besides, he won Bachsas Award and Fazlul Haq Memorial Award.

Puroskar is a 1983 Bangladeshi film starring Bulbul Ahmed and Indian actress Jayshri Kabir opposite him. It earned five awards at the 8th Bangladesh National Film Awards.

Alta Banu is a 2018 Bangladeshi romantic drama film directed by Arun Chowdhury and starring Zakia Bari Momo, Anisur Rahman Milon and Farzana Rikta. The screenplay, by Brindaban Das, is based on a story of the same name by Faridur Reza Sagar.

Bandi Theke Begum is a Bangladeshi drama film, released in 1975. The film directed by Mohshin. Story, screenplay and dialogue by journalist and also writer Ahmed Zaman Choudhury. The film stars Razzak and Bobita in a lead role with Shahed Sharif, Zafor Iqbal, Baby Zaman, Khalil supporting role. In the film, first time Bobita won National Film Award.

Syed Salahuddin Zaki was a Bangladeshi film director, producer and film writer. He won the Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Dialogue for the film Ghuddi (1980). He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2021. Zaki died in Dhaka on 18 September 2023, at the age of 77.

Nabab LLB is a Bangladeshi legal drama film. The film directed, story and screenplay by Anonno Mamun, and produced by Azmat Hossain under the banner of Celebrity Production. It is a courtroom drama based on rape and violence against women. The film depicts the story of raped women protesting for their rights through social protests and judicial system. The film revolves around a rape victim Shuvra who is a radio jockey by profession, with Shakib Khan, who fought a legal battle in the court as her chief lawyer, Mahiya Mahi and Shahiduzzaman Selim played in the lead roles. The film soundtrack is composed by Dolaan Maainnakk.
