C. R. Ramachandran is an Indian politician and was a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate from Thondamuthur constituency in the 1996 election. [1] [2] because of his father's death he was not able to contribute totally into DMK so was not selected as a candidate in the election of 2001. [3]

The DMK restructured its organisation in Coimbatore district as a consequence of a poor showing in the 2014 general election. As a part of that process, Ramachandran was elected as district secretary for the newly-formed Coimbatore North unit in December 2014. [4]

The DMK could only win 2 seats. This was the worst performance of the DMK since it entered electoral politics in the 1957.

Kandaswamy was very popular among his people and lived without any caste difference. It was said that there were only two houses in Tamil Nadu which do not close, one being that of M. G. Ramachandran and the other being his own house where he lived alone till his death in 2008. He was a notorious and aggressive campaigner often defying the party lines and the CM, earning him the name "Negamam Napolean". This name was also used in the film Amaidhi Padai.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election, ending the decade-long reign of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The DMK's leader M. K. Stalin became the eighth Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and the 12th Chief Minister since the 1956 reorganization. He replaced Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK.
