CASAR Drahtseilwerk Saar GmbH is a wire rope producing company based in Kirkel, Germany. CASAR develops, produces and distributes wire rope for cranes and other lifting devices. CASAR has 380 employees. The production capacity is 18.000ts (2007).[ citation needed ]
The company CASAR Drahtseilwerk Saar was founded in 1948 by Joseph Verreet . CASAR is an abbreviation for the French term ’Câblerie Sarroise’. CASAR produced the first 8-strand ropes in 1949, in a time, where six-strand-ropes were usual. The ’Space Mountain’ at EuroDisney works with a wire rope from CASAR.[ citation needed ] In 2006, CASAR developed composite ropes to decrease weight. [1]

The economist Christoph Müller, professor at the University of St. Gallen, included Casar as a hidden champion in his list of market leaders 2018, which he compiled together with Wirtschaftswoche. According to him, Casar is the world market leader for special wire ropes (crane and mining ropes). [4]

With this form of lift, the grip of an aerial tramway cabin is fixed onto the propulsion rope and cannot be decoupled from it during operations. Rope splicing in ropework is the forming of a semi-permanent joint between two ropes or two parts of the same rope by partly untwisting and then interweaving their strands. Splices can be used to form a stopper at the end of a line, to form a loop or an eye in a rope, or for joining two ropes together. Splices are preferred to knotted rope, since while a knot typically reduces the strength by 20–40%, a splice is capable of attaining a rope's full strength. However, splicing usually results in a thickening of the line and, if subsequently removed, leaves a distortion of the rope. An overhead crane, commonly called a bridge crane, is a type of crane found in industrial environments. An overhead crane consists of two parallel rails seated on longitudinal I-beams attached to opposite steel columns by means of brackets. The traveling bridge spans the gap. A hoist, the lifting component of a crane, travels along the bridge.
