CERIS is a beverage company in Cape Verde that manufactures beer, soft drinks and water. Together with the distribution company Cavibel, it is owned by Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company. CERIS was established as a mixed capital (public/private) company in 1988. In 2001 it was acquired by the Madeira Brewery, and in January 2005 the majority of its shares were sold to the shareholders of Cavibel, part of Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company. [1] It produces the brands Bonaqua, Schweppes, Fanta, Sprite, Coca-Cola, Ceris, the Cape Verdean beer Strela, Ego, Actimalt and Vimto. [2] The factory is located in the neighbourhood Praia Negra, east of the city centre of Praia, the capital of Cape Verde. [2] [3]

Cape Verde or Cabo Verde, officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an island country spanning an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles. In ancient times these islands were referred to as "the Islands of the Blessed" or the "Fortunate Isles". Located 570 kilometres (350 mi) west of the Cape Verde Peninsula off the coast of Northwest Africa, the islands cover a combined area of slightly over 4,000 square kilometres (1,500 sq mi).

The Madeira Brewery is a brewery in Madeira. The main brand is Coral Lager. The company is the biggest producer and drink distributor in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. It produces alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Until 2007, ECM drinks had been awarded 117 Monde Selection awards. However, Monde Selection awards are non-competitive and only products that pay to enter are judged. The company is certified by the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality norms.

Schweppes is a Swiss beverage brand that is sold around the world. It includes a variety of lemonade, carbonated waters and ginger ales.

Production of the beer was started in November 2006, replacing the production of Coral, a brand of CERIS's former owner Madeira Brewery. The beer is distributed by Cavibel. Both CERIS and Cavibel are owned by Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Company. Strela beer is exported to Gambia, Guinea and Portugal.
