The Cairo Championships [1] or Championships of Cairo was a men's and women's international clay court tennis tournament founded circa 1932. It was played in Cairo, Egypt. The tournament ran until 1972.

History

The Cairo Championships or sometimes called Championships of Cairo was a men's and women's international clay court tennis tournament founded circa 1932. The championships were first played at the Gezira Sporting Club, Cairo, Egypt. [2] In the 1950s the tournament was held at Tawfikiya Tennis Club (f. 1896), Cairo, before returning to the Gezira Sporting Club. The tournament was staged until the early 1970s.

The Irish Open and originally known as the Irish Lawn Tennis Championships and for sponsorship reasons also known as Carroll's Irish Open was a men's and women's tennis tournament held at the Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club in Dublin, Ireland. Before the creation of the International Lawn Tennis Federation and the establishment of its world championship events in 1913, it was considered by players and historians one of the four most important tennis tournaments to win. the others being Wimbledon, the U.S. National championships and the Northern Championships. The men's event was part of the pre-open era tour from inception until 1967. It was then part of the open era non-aligned independent tour (1968–69). From 1970 to 1974, it was an event on the Grand Prix tennis circuit. The women's event was on the same tours as the men except for when it became part of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) Tour from 1971 to 1973. The men's edition was played until 1979, and the women's ended in 1983.

The Egyptian Open originally known as the Egyptian Championships also known as the International Championships of Egypt is a defunct Grand Prix and Challenger affiliated tennis tournament played from 1975 to 1991. It was held in Cairo in Egypt and played on outdoor clay courts from 1925 to 2002.

The British Hard Court Championships is a defunct Grand Prix tennis and WTA Tour affiliated tennis tournament played from 1968 to 1983 and 1995 to 1999. The inaugural edition of the tournament was held in 1924 in Torquay, moving to the West Hants Tennis Club in Bournemouth, England in 1927 and was held there until 1983. The 1977 and 1979 editions were cancelled due to lack of sponsorship. In 1995 the event was revived at Bournemouth as a women's WTA tournament but was only played there that year. The Cacharel Caracas Open was a men's tennis tournament founded as the Altamira International, also known as the Altamira International Invitation in 1956. From 1890 the event was known as the Exmouth Open Tennis Tournament. It was hosted by the Exmouth Archery, Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, Exmouth, Devon, Great Britain until 1927.
