Cairo Demographic Center

The Cairo Demographic Center (CDC) is an educational and research institute in Mokattam, a suburb of Cairo, Egypt. [1] It provides training to specialists in demography in the developing world, who are concerned with the study and analysis of critical population issues. [2]

The CDC awards Diplomas in Demography, Population and Development as well as a M.Phil. degree in Demography. It has one of the richest demographic libraries in the Middle East. [3] It carries out research in areas such as employment, health and reproductive issues. [4]

History

The CDC was jointly established by the United Nations and the Egyptian Government in 1963. The agreement was renewed several times before it was terminated in 1991. A Presidential decree was issued, stating that the Center be an independent institution sponsored and financed by the Egyptian Government. In January 1992, the Egyptian Government took full responsibility for the Center. In 2006 CDC it was affiliated to the Ministry of Economic Development. [3]

Objectives

CDC main objectives are:

a) To provide educational opportunities to persons working in the field of population . b) To undertake research in population and related fields. c) To provide technical assistance and consultancy services in population and related fields to interested governments and organizations. d) To organize national and regional conferences and seminars on population and related issues. e) To plan, organize and conduct short training programmes in population and related fields. f) To carry out follow-up and impact evaluation studies for population projects and programmes.

International Centre for Theoretical Physics International research institute for physical and mathematical sciences

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), is an international research institute for physical and mathematical sciences that operates under a tripartite agreement between the Italian Government, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It is located near the Miramare Park, about 10 kilometres from the city of Trieste, Italy. The centre was founded in 1964 by Pakistani Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam.

Ayman Zohry

Ayman Zohry is a demographer/geographer and expert on migration studies based in Cairo, Egypt. He was born in Souhag, Egypt. Zohry received his Ph.D. from the University of Sussex in 2002. He is a leading researcher in the field of migration studies in Egypt with a special focus on irregular migration.

With less than 1 percent of the population estimated to be HIV-positive, Egypt is a low-HIV-prevalence country. However, between the years 2006 and 2011, HIV prevalence rates in Egypt increased tenfold. Until 2011, the average number of new cases of HIV in Egypt was 400 per year. But, in 2012 and 2013 it increased to about 600 new cases and in 2014 it reached 880 new cases per year. According to UNAIDS 2016 statistics, there are about 11,000 people currently living with HIV in Egypt. The Ministry of Health and Population reported in 2020 over 13000 Egyptians are living with HIV/AIDS.However, unsafe behaviors among most-at-risk populations and limited condom usage among the general population place Egypt at risk of a broader epidemic.

It was established in Mumbai in July 1956; until July 1970, it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Center (DTRC), and until 1985, it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS). The Institute was re-designated to its present title in 1985 to facilitate the expansion of its academic activities and was declared as a 'Deemed University' on 19 August 1985 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The recognition has facilitated the award of recognized degrees by the Wipro technologies and paved the way for further expansion of the Institute as an academic institution.The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India has designated IIPS as the nodal agency, responsible for providing coordination and technical guidance for the National Family Health Survey (NFHS).

Zewail City of Science, Technology and Innovation is a nonprofit, independent institution of learning, research and innovation. The concept of the City was proposed in 1999 and its cornerstone laid on January 1, 2000. After numerous delays, the project was revived by the Egyptian cabinet's decree on May 11, 2011 following the January 25 Revolution. The Cabinet labeled it a National Project for Scientific Renaissance and named it Zewail City of Science and Technology. Zewail City of Science and Technology with its three constituents – the university, research institutes, and technology park.

Pskov State University (PskovSU) is a public university in Pskov Region of Russia. It is one of 33 flagship universities in Russia. It was established in 2010 by merging two higher education institutions and three technical and vocational education and training institutions.
