Camera Shy is an American indie pop band from Oakland, California. The duo consists of instrumentalist Nick Bassett (also of Whirr and formerly of Nothing) and vocalist Alexandra Morte (also of Night School and formerly of Whirr). They have released two EPs and one full-length album. [1] [2] [3] [4]

History

Camera Shy was formed in 2014. After signing with Run for Cover Records, the band released their debut EP, Jack-o-Lantern, on June 9, 2014. [5] [6] It was followed by the "Crystal Clear" single on April 18, 2015, which included a cover of the Misfits' "She" as one of the two B-sides. [7]

Camera Shy released their eponymous debut studio album on July 14, 2015. [8] [9]

On November 10, 2017, Camera Shy was featured on the expanded version of the album Transistor by dream pop band Monster Movie, contributing with a cover version of the song "Chances Are High". [10]

"The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" is a song written by Andy Partridge of English rock band XTC for their 1992 album Nonsuch. It was their second number-one hit on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart, after "Mayor of Simpleton", and reached number 71 on the UK Singles Chart. The song tells the story of Peter Pumpkinhead, a man who comes to an unspecified town and provides aid for the poor and homeless. He gains widespread public approval, but the government comes to resent his success and tries in vain to malign his reputation. Peter is ultimately nailed to a block of wood by his enemies, and his death is broadcast on live television.

Edward Droste is an American singer-songwriter and musician, formerly of the rock band Grizzly Bear. The group began as the solo effort of Droste with the release of 2004's Horn of Plenty, originally released on Kanine Records. All songs were written and performed by Droste. By 2005, the group expanded into a four-piece, with Droste still as a contributing songwriter. He left the group in 2020.

Whirr is a shoegaze band from Modesto, California. The group formed in 2010, originally as Whirl, but had to legally change its name after a woman performing acoustic covers of Black Sabbath songs trademarked the name and threatened a lawsuit. Whirr's shoegaze sound is often compared to My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Founding guitarist Nick Bassett also played in the band Deafheaven surrounding and including the release of their 2011 album Roads to Judah.

Nothing's third studio album, Dance on the Blacktop, was released in 2018, and their fourth studio album, The Great Dismal, was released in 2020.

Whirr / Nothing is a split EP by the American shoegaze bands Whirr and Nothing, released on November 17, 2014 by Run for Cover. The EP was released digitally as well as in 12-inch vinyl format with an etched B-side packaged with a documentary DVD. Nothing announced the EP in February 2014, prior to the release of its debut album Guilty of Everything, describing the split release as "very accessible" and noting a tentative release date of early 2014.
