Cameron Fowler (born 4 July 1993) is a Western Australian former representative lightweight rower. He was an Australian national champion and represented at the 2017 World Rowing Championships.
Fowler was raised in Perth, Western Australia and educated at Wesley College, Perth where he took up rowing. His senior club rowing was from the Swan River Rowing Club.
In Swan River colours he contested and had podium finishes for a number of Australian titles at Australian Rowing Championships. He won silver in the open lightweight men's eight in 2014, [1] silver in the open lightweight quad in 2015, [2] and gold in the open lightweight coxless four in 2016. [3] He won the silver in the lightweight coxless pair in 2018. [4]
Fowler made his state representative debut for Western Australia in the 2013 youth eight which contested the Noel Wilkinson Trophy at the annual Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. [5] In 2014 Fowler moved into the West Australian lightweight four which contested the Penrith Cup at the Interstate Regatta. [6] That crew won silver. He rowed in further West Australian Penrith Cup lightweight fours in 2015 (silver), [7] 2016 (silver), [8] and 2018.
Fowler made his Australian representative debut in 2013 when he was selected in the lightweight coxless four to race at the 2013 U23 World Rowing Championships in Rotterdam. That crew placed twelfth overall. [9]
In 2017 he made the Australian senior squad for the European racing season. At the World Rowing Cup II he rowed in an Australian lightweight quad which competed in the open weight division and placed tenth. Then at WRC III he rowed the lightweight single scull. He was back in the lightweight quad for the 2017 World Rowing Championships where they placed overall twelfth. [9]
In 2018 Fowler made further senior squad appearance in the Australian lightweight quad at World Rowing Cup II and III in Lucerne. [9] These were his final Australian representative showings as this boat was not taken to the 2018 World Rowing Championships.
Fowler studied Psychology at Curtin University. After retirement from competitive rowing he had some school rowing shed coaching appointments at Perth College and Wesley College. In 2021 he took a role as Head Coach at the Bunbury Rowing Club. [10]
Michael McBryde is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was a national champion, an U23 World Champion and a medallist at senior World Championships.
Simon Burgess is an Australian national champion, two-time World Champion, three-time Olympian and dual Olympic silver medal-winning lightweight rower. He represented Australia ten times at World Rowing Championships between 1990 and 2002. He won world and national championships in both sculls and in sweep-oared boat classes during an eighteen-year elite level career.
Benjamin Cureton is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was an eight-time national champion, a world champion and a three-time Olympian. He won his world championship in the men's lightweight fours, and an Olympic silver medal in that boat class in Athens 2004. He competed at two further Olympics in this discipline. For a twelve-year period from 2001 – excepting 2009 and 2010 – Cureton held his seat in all the Australian lightweight coxless fours selected to race at the premier world regattas.
Lyall McCarthy OAM is a former Australian national champion lightweight rower and national rowing coach. He has coached Australian crews to gold medals at the World Rowing Championships and the Olympic Games.
Gary Lynagh is an eleven time Australian national champion, three time World Champion and Olympian lightweight rower. He represented Australia at every premier international regatta from 1990 to 1998.
Blair Tunevitsch is an Australian former lightweight rower – a five time national champion and world champion. He won a gold medal at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled with the lightweight men's eight.
Alister Foot is an Australian world champion lightweight rower. He won a gold medal at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled in the lightweight men's eight.
Darryn Purcell is an Australian former national and world champion lightweight rower. He won a gold medal at the 2011 World Rowing Championships in Bled with the lightweight men's eight.
Eliza Blair is an Australian architect and former representative rower. She was a national champion, a 1997 world champion and the standing world record holder in the women's lightweight coxless pair.
Deon Birtwistle is an Australian lightweight rower. He was three times a national champion, an U23 World Champion and a silver medallist at the 2003 World Championships. He continued to compete at the national elite level into his 40s.
Maia Simmonds is an Australian former representative rower. She is a three-time national champion, rowed for her home state of Western Australia in both lightweight and heavyweight crews, in sculling and sweep-oared boats and won a silver medal at the 2014 World Rowing Championships.
Perry Ward is an Australian national representative lightweight rower. He rowed in Western Australia's state selection lightweight crew for thirteen consecutive years from 2006 to 2018, winning the national title on four occasions. He represented Australia at eight senior and U23 world championships, stroking every crew in which he was selected and winning a silver medal at the 2010 World Rowing Championships.
Simon Nola is an Australian former national representative lightweight rower. He won a silver medal at the 2013 World Rowing Championships.
Nicholas Silcox is an Australian former national representative lightweight rower. He won a silver medal at the 2013 World Rowing Championships.
Brian Digby is an Australian former lightweight rower. He was an eleven-time national champion, an Australian national representative at seven World Rowing Championships and a Commonwealth Games. He won silver medals at the 1986 Commonwealth Games and at the 1983 World Rowing Championships. For a five year period from 1984 to 1988 he was the consistent stroke of the Australian national champion lightweight coxless four.
Paul Francis Rowe was an Australian representative rower and elite level rowing coach. He was an eight-time Australian national champion in both sweep oared and sculling boats across both lightweight and open divisions. He was Australia's lightweight sculling representative at the 1975 World Rowing Championships. He coached scullers and crews to three Australia national title wins and to world championships and to Commonwealth and Olympic Games.
Sean Murphy is an Australian representative lightweight rower. He is a 2018 Australian national champion; won bronze medals at senior and U/23 World Championships as a lightweight sculler; and in 2019 won two gold medals in lightweight sculling at Rowing World Cups in the international representative season.
Hamish Parry is a former Australian representative lightweight rower. He was a nine-time national champion in both sculling and sweep-oared crews and has sculled at underage and senior world championships from 2013 to 2021.
Redmond Matthews is an Australian representative lightweight rower. He is a three-time Australian national champion, and has represented twice at World Championships.
James Kerr is a Western Australian former representative lightweight rower. He is a three-time Australian national champion and represented at the 2017 World Rowing Championships.
