Canvey Point is situated in the easternmost part of Canvey Island in the borough of Castle Point, Essex.
Canvey Point is commonly referred to as just "The Point" by most residents of Canvey Island.
It is reputedly haunted by the ghost of a Viking invader, searching for his ship. [1]

The Occidental Refinery was a planned oil refinery on Canvey Island, Essex, England. Located in the Thames Estuary, the partly-built, non-operational, six million tonne/year refinery was planned and constructed by Occidental Refineries Limited in 1970–5 and demolished in 1996–7.
