Cardboard is a 2025 British animated short film written and directed by J.P. Vine [1] and produced by Locksmith Animation, DNEG Animation and Ritzy Animation. [2] The short film, [3] which is about a family of homeless pigs, [4] was selected in various [5] festivals, [6] including the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, [7] [8] [9] the LA Shorts International Film Festival, [10] the BFI London Film Festival, [11] the Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival [12] and the Animation Is Film Festival. [13] Cardboard was shortlisted for Best Animated Short Film [14] at the 98th Academy Awards and was also nominated for Best Animated Short Subject [15] at the 53rd Annie Awards in 2026.
A single dad pig and his piglets move into a dilapidated trailer park. While the dad feels like he let down his family, the kids use a cardboard box to trigger a wildly imaginative adventure, transforming Dad’s view of their new home.
