Carey W. Hayes (born April 21, 1961) is an American screenwriter and producer. He is the twin brother of Chad Hayes. They are writing partners, and wrote such films as the 2005 remake of House of Wax , The Reaping (2007) and The Conjuring (2013). The two also appeared in Rad , a sports film directed by Hal Needham, as well as Doublemint Gum commercials in their early years of acting in the 1980s.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their purportedly real-life reports inspired The Amityville Horror story and film franchise. The Warrens come to the assistance of the Perron family, who experienced increasingly disturbing events in their newly occupied farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971. With Ed and Lorraine Warren's investigation, the Perron case became the first witch curse that is placed across the land.

The film follows the Warrens as they travel to England to assist the Hodgson family, who are experiencing poltergeist activity at their Enfield council house in 1977 which later became referred to as the Enfield poltergeist.
