Carl Lorenz Cervantes (born November 27, 1994) is a Filipino actor and author.

Personal life

Cervantes graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the Ateneo de Manila University. He also obtained a MA degree in Counseling Psychology from the same institution. He became known after joining GMA Network’s reality show, Starstruck 6. Since then, he has bagged various roles in GMA shows such as Magpakailanman, Maynila, and Meant To Be. [1] He has also appeared as a guest or segment host in various shows on GMA News and Public Affairs, such as Good News and AHA!. [2] In 2020, he went viral for dressing up as the mayor of Pasig city, Vico Sotto. [3]

Interests

Cervantes has a social media page on the psychology of Philippine spirituality. [4] He has also written a short book on the matter. [5]

He served a total of four terms in the Senate: 1992 to 2004 and 2010 to 2022, tying the record for the longest-serving Senator with Lorenzo Tañada and Franklin Drilon. In between his stints in the Senate, he led the Dangerous Drugs Board for a year. He became the Vice Mayor of Quezon City from 1988 to 1992, and later unsuccessfully ran for vice president in the 2022 elections as Panfilo Lacson's running mate.

The runners are male, and traditionally run completely naked in public places, with their genitals fully visible, on a designated route. The event was first organized in 1977 at the University of the Philippines Diliman to promote Hubad na Bayani, a film. It draws its name from the Oblation, a statue of a nude man located in every University of the Philippines campus, which symbolizes "a selfless offering of one's self to the country." The event is usually done on December 16, and serves as a protest to contemporary national issues.

A member of the Sotto family, he first entered politics when he ran for a seat on the Pasig City Council in 2016. He won the election as an independent and served a term in the city council. He joined the Aksyon Demokratiko party and was elected mayor of Pasig in 2019 with a platform focused on public consultation, data-driven governance, and universal health care in the city, which prioritizes housing programs, easier access to education, and cracking down on corruption. Sotto was re-elected in 2022; shortly afterwards, he resigned from Aksyon Demokratiko.
