Michael O'Shea is the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He is a former Canadian football linebacker and former special teams coordinator of the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL from 2010 to 2013, winning the Grey Cup in 2012. O'Shea played 16 seasons in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts from 1993 to 2008. He retired second all-time in career tackles with 1,154 and is one of only three players to record over 1,000 tackles. He won the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 1999 after recording 84 tackles, 13 special teams tackles and three interceptions that year. O'Shea is a three-time Grey Cup champion as a player, having won all three with the Argonauts in 1996, 1997, and 2004. He is also a two-time Grey Cup winning head coach, having won with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2019 and 2021; O'Shea also won the Grey Cup previously as a special teams coach with the Toronto Argonauts in the 100th Grey Cup.
The Banjo Bowl is the annual rematch game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) after the Labour Day Classic. Daryl Stephenson is a former professional Canadian football running back. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2008 and played with that franchise for three seasons. Matt O'Meara is a former professional Canadian football guard who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He was signed on for two years by the Roughriders as the third overall selection in the 2005 CFL Draft, with his position as offensive lineman on the injury reserve list for the team. He played CIS Football at his alumni McMaster University, his position being offensive tackle. While at McMaster University, he became the 2003/2004 OUA First Team All-Star. He played in three Yates Cup championships before he signed on with the Roughriders in 2005.
Keith Shologan is a Canadian former professional football defensive tackle in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the UCF Knights. Shologan was a member of the San Diego Chargers, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Ottawa Redblacks, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Montreal Alouettes.
The 2010 CFL Draft took place on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 12:00 PM ET on TSN. 47 players were chosen from among eligible players from Canadian universities across the country, as well as Canadian players playing in the NCAA. After a number of trades, including ones made on draft day, Toronto and BC wound up with the most picks with nine apiece. The defending Grey Cup champions, the Montreal Alouettes, had seven, while the Calgary Stampeders had six. The Edmonton Eskimos, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Saskatchewan Roughriders each had four. Of the 47 draft selections, 36 players were drafted from Canadian Interuniversity Sport institutions.
The 2011 Winnipeg Blue Bombers was the 54th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 79th overall. The Blue Bombers finished in first place in the East Division with a 10–8 record. The team clinched their first playoff berth since 2008 on October 7, 2011, after a 33–17 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. On November 20, 2011, The Blue Bombers defeated the Tiger-Cats 19–3 in the East Final, advancing to the 99th Grey Cup and extending their Grey Cup appearances record to 24. However, the Bombers lost the Grey Cup game 34–23 to the BC Lions, extending their drought to 21 years without a Grey Cup championship. Their Grey Cup appearance marked their final playoff game played in five seasons, failing to make the playoffs in the four subsequent seasons following their loss to the Lions team. Additionally, the Blue Bombers wouldn't host another playoff game again until the 2017 CFL season, this time losing to the Edmonton Eskimos 39-32.
The 2011 Hamilton Tiger-Cats season was the 54th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 62nd overall. The Tiger-Cats finished third place in the East Division with an 8–10 record. After hosting the East Semi-Final in 2009 and 2010 with no success, the Tiger-Cats had to go on the road for the 2011 playoffs since they finished third in the East. In the East Semi-Final, the Ti-Cats upset the two-time defending Grey Cup champions, Montreal Alouettes, 52–44 in overtime, giving them their first playoff victory since 2001. The Ti-Cats then traveled to Winnipeg to play the Blue Bombers where they lost 19–3 in the East Final.

Of the 45 draft selections, 24 players were drafted from Canadian Interuniversity Sport institutions, which is the lowest percentage of CIS players taken since 2006. It is also the lowest number of CIS players taken since the 2000 CFL Draft when just 22 out of 46 players were chosen.
Henoc Muamba is a Congolese-Canadian former professional football linebacker who played in both the Canadian Football League (CFL) and National Football League (NFL). He was a two-time CFL All-Star, three-time CFL Divisional All-Star, and was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian in 2017. In 2022, he won the Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts and was named the game's most valuable player (MVP) and Grey Cup Most Valuable Canadian, becoming the second player in history to earn both awards. The 2013 Winnipeg Blue Bombers season was the 56th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 81st overall. The Blue Bombers finished in fourth place in the East Division with a 3–15 record and missed the playoffs for the second straight year. This was the first season for the Blue Bombers at their new stadium, Investors Group Field. Originally, They were supposed to start playing there in 2012, but delays in construction pushed the opening date to 2013.
