Carlos Arroyo Zapatero is a contemporary architect, urbanist and critic from Madrid, Spain. His work claims to set the frame for a new architectural culture, language and aesthetics, through the ethics, technology and parameters of sustainability. He claims [1] that his architecture is not designed to be photographed, but to be lived-in and enjoyed through time. He has developed a diagrammatic graphic style for his presentations which is inspirational for a whole generation of architects. In contrast, his built work is often portrayed by photographer-artists, producing innovative formats like photo-novellas, [2] gif's, or video. His work has been exhibited in internationally renowned venues like the Venice Biennale (8th and 14th), the Institut Français d'Architecture, presented in referential publications like El Croquis, and quoted by many bloggers in the sphere.

Biography

Carlos Arroyo was born on June 14, 1964. In 1990, after graduating in linguistics at the Institute of Linguistics in London, he went back to Madrid where he studied architecture at ETSAM and received ISOVER award for best PFC (Master Thesis Project) of the school in the year he graduated, 1997. He holds a PhD in Architecture since 2018. [3] From 2000 to 2008 Arroyo was professor of Architectonic Projects at Universidad de Alcalá [4] and since 2005 at Universidad Europea de Madrid [5] where he currently leads a Master Thesis Unit. He is honorary member of Europan Spain National Committee [6] and member of Europan Europe Scientific Committee [7] since 2004.

His work received recognition for its integration of the disciplines of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture in the creation of public spaces with a sense of place, human scale, and environmental responsibility. In 2005 Andrés Mignucci was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects. In 2012, he was awarded the Henry Klumb Award by the Puerto Rico College of Architects. In 2019, Mignucci received the Distinguished Professor Award by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and was named Arts and Literary Arts Scholar in Residence at the Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Center in Bellagio, Italy.

Teresa Sapey is an Italian architect and interior designer, characterised by her playful designs and unique sense of color. She studied at Architecture Politecnic University of Turin in 1985, and completed her academic education in París with a BFA degree from the Parsons School of Design and a Master in La Villette. In 1990 she moved to Madrid, where she founded her own architecture studio, which she currently leads alongside her partner and daughter Francesca Heathcote Sapey. Sapey has been a teacher of Plastic Investigation at Universidad Camilo José Cela in Madrid and as a visiting professor at several foreign universities. She was part of the Hotel Puerta América Project, designing the parking. In this project, 18 architects worked together such as Jean Nouvel, Arata Isozaki, Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid.

Luis M. Mansilla, was a Spanish architect. He graduated from the E.T.S.A.M. on 1982, and obtained the Ph. degree on 1998. In 1984 he was fellow of the Spanish Academy in Rome, and in 1987 obtained the Swedish Institute Scholarship in Stockholm. During the 1980s, he actively participated in the cultural scene of the so-called “La Movida”. A time when he developed enduring friendships with artists Sigfrido Martín Begué and Guillermo Pérez Villalta, that would strongly influence his own work. In 1992, Luis M. Mansilla and Emilio Tuñón establish the architecture firm Mansilla + Tuñón Architects, that would be operating until short after his passing.
