Carlos Betancourt (born 1966) is a Puerto Rican artist. [1] A multimedia artist based in Miami, [2] he was an influential artist in that city following his arrival in the region of Wynwood in the 1980s. [3] [4]

Born of Cuban immigrants in San Juan, Betancourt came to America with his family in 1981 when he was 15, settling in Miami. [5] [6] Despite an early pursuit of architecture, he decided to pursue design, working in photography, painting, sculpture, installation, and performance art, among others. [7] He opened a studio and storefront named "Imperfect Utopia" in South Beach which in the 1990s was visited by a number of celebrities. [8] In 1995, he was named by People magazine one of its 50 most beautiful people in the world. [9] By 2002, his works were exhibiting internationally, with a solo exhibition at the Casa Museo Palacio Spínola in the Canary Islands. [10] In 2015, his work was collected in a coffee table book named after his art studio, published by Italian publisher Rizzoli Libri. With a foreword by Richard Blanco, the book explores the first 25 years of Betancourt's career. [4] That same year, in November, he mounted a solo exhibition at the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art. [4] [11] In 2018, he received a Florida Prize from the Orlando Museum of Art. [12] His work is part of the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery of the United States. [13]

Purvis Young was an American artist from the Overtown neighborhood of Miami, Florida. Young's work, often a blend of collage and painting, utilizes found objects and the experience of African Americans in the south. Young gained recognition as a cult contemporary artist, with a collectors' following that included Jane Fonda, Damon Wayans, Jim Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, and others. In 2006 a feature documentary titled Purvis of Overtown was produced about his life and work. His work is found in the collections of the American Folk Art Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the High Museum of Art, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Bakehouse Art Complex, and others. In 2018, he was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame.

Zilia Sánchez Dominguez is a Puerto Rico-based Cuban artist from Havana. She started her career as a set designer and an abstract painter for theatre groups in Cuba before the Cuban revolution of 1953-59. Sanchez blurs the lines between sculpture and painting by creating canvases layered with three dimensional protrusions and shapes. Her works are minimal in color, and have erotic overtones.

He studied from 1972 to 1976 at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes "San Alejandro" in Havana and from 1976 to 1981, studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), also in Havana. Torres resided in Mexico City, Mexico, from 1990 to 1993 and has resided in Miami, Florida, since 1993.

Francisco Rovira Rullán is an art dealer, active from a young age. He has worked for the Ronald S. Lauder Collection (NYC), in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (Boston) and M&M Proyectos among other institutions and companies.

"Untitled" is a work of art by Félix González-Torres, currently in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago. The work is one of the twenty "candy works" in Gonzalez-Torres's oeuvre. The candy works are manifestable; the artworks are not physically permanent, they can exist in more than one place at a time and can vary from one installation to the next in response to the decisions made by the exhibitor, the interactions of audiences, and changing circumstances.
