Sister Carmen Sammut is the former leader of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) and the superior general of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa, known as the White Sisters. She is a Roman Catholic religious sister.
In May 2013, Sammut was elected as the new president of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG). [1]
Carmen Sammut is Maltese. [2] She spent 28 years as a teacher in Algeria, Tunisia and Mauritania. Carmen studied at the Pontifical Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies [3] and speaks fluent Maltese, English, French and Arabic. In 2011, she became Superior General of her order. [1]

The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette are a religious congregation of priests and brothers in the Latin Church. They are named after the apparition of Our Lady of La Salette in France. There is also a parallel religious community of sisters called the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of La Salette. A lay fraternal group of associates also works in cooperation with the vowed religious. The Missionaries are dedicated to making known the message of Our Lady of La Salette, a call to healing of inner brokenness and personal reconciliation with God, especially as found in the first three commandments. The missionaries are popularly known as "the La Salettes."

It offers a global forum for superiors general of institutions of Catholic women religious. It has evolved as a means of connecting women religious congregations with the council fathers. Its members include approximately 2000 leaders of congregations of apostolic women religious.

Mary Milligan was an American theologian, a university administrator, and a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) who served as the tenth general superior of the Institute of the RSHM (1980–1985). She was the first general superior of that religious order who was born in the United States. In 1987, she was appointed by the Vatican as special secretary to the International Synod of Bishops on the Laity as one of three U.S. experts. While undertaking that task, she lobbied for a stronger role for women within the Catholic Church. She served Loyola Marymount University as a professor, as provost, and subsequently as Dean of Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts. She went on to serve on the board of St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, California, and taught theology to seminarians.
