Carmen Vidal (28 June 1915 - 10 February 2003) was a Spanish cosmetologist and business person. She was the founder of the firm Germaine de Capuccini, a prestigious cosmetics company. [1] [2]

Biography

Carmen Vidal was born in Réghaïa, a town which is situated in the north of Algeria on the 28th of June, 1915 to Spanish parents. She lived in Algeria for some time before travelling to Paris; she lived in Algeria until the 1940s when it was under French colonisation. She graduated from the Medical University of Algeria. Vidal was enticed by beauty and fashion ever since her childhood. [3]

Career

In the early 1950s, Vidal returned to Algeria, where she worked as a personal assistant to Madame Fabré, an aesthetician. In 1962, she settled in France where she established a laboratory in Paris.[ citation needed ]

Vidal left Paris to establish a professional cosmetics company in her native country of Spain in 1964, and named the company Germaine de Capuccini. She named it using the French name of Germaine and after Capucine, who was a popular French actress and a model in the 1960s. Germaine de Capuccini has grown into a successful cosmetics firm and has been established in around 80 nations. [4] Vidal has played a key role in the development of the company since its establishment. [5]

Germaine Dulac was a French filmmaker, film theorist, journalist and critic. She was born in Amiens and moved to Paris in early childhood. Émilie Ambre French opera singer 1849–1898

Émilie Gabrielle Adèle Ambre (néeAmbroise; was a French opera singer who performed leading soprano roles in Europe and North America and later became a singing teacher. Born in French Algeria and trained at the Marseilles Conservatory, she was for several years the mistress of William III of the Netherlands. She had a son Robert by her next lover Gaston de Beauplan, but the relationship eventually foundered after their return from the financially disastrous 1880–1881 American tour de Beauplan had organized to showcase her talents. Following her retirement from the stage in 1890, Ambre opened a singing school in Paris with the composer Emile Bouichère and married him in 1894. As a singer, she was particularly known for her performances as Violetta, Manon, and Aida, but is primarily remembered today as the subject of Édouard Manet's portrait of her as Carmen.

Germaine Bailac French mezzo-soprano opera singer (1881–1977)

Jeanne Albertine Germaine Bailac de Boria was a French mezzo-soprano opera singer and voice teacher. After studying at the Toulouse and Paris conservatoires, she made her début at the Paris Opera in August 1907 in the title role of Samson et Dalila. In May 1908, she performed in the world premiere of Isaac de Camondo's Le Clown at the Opéra-Comique. She subsequently appeared in various roles, in particular Bizet's Carmen, in Paris and the provinces. In later life she taught voice at the Toulouse Conservatoire.
