Catarina Cardoso Garcia da Fonseca Furtado (born 25 August 1972) is a Portuguese television presenter, actress and UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador. Catarina was born in Lisbon and is a daughter of RTP journalist Joaquim Furtado.
Throughout her career on television which started in the early 1990s, she has worked for SIC and RTP television networks, as well as the radio stations Rádio Comercial and RDP Antena 3. While an underage girl, Catarina had a short non-talking role in the film Non, ou a Vã Glória de Mandar directed by Manoel de Oliveira. Later on she starred in films like Killing Time (an English film that appeared in the Cannes Film Festival), Fatima (an Italian movie by Fabrizio Costa), Anjo da Guarda and Pesadelo cor-de-rosa, among others.
Catarina's first big success was as a presenter on the TV show Top + on RTP, a Portuguese program featuring popular music videos and the national weekly record chart. It was a music show that led to her hosting an MTV Portugal program on the SIC network, years before Portuguese MTV was founded. She went on to do a variety of shows, including Treasure Hunt (Caça ao Tesouro), on SIC television, which was often shot on location in Portugal's smaller towns, where Catarina arrived in a helicopter.
On January 8, 2018, she was announced as one of the four hosts of the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest alongside Sílvia Alberto, Daniela Ruah, and Filomena Cautela. [1]
Catarina attended the Conservatório Nacional (until 1990) specializing in dance. She also trained in journalism and studied drama at London's International School of Acting from 1995 to 1997, as well as Lee Strasberg's Method Studio in England. She was married to João Reis, an actor, from 2005 to 2023 and has a daughter, Maria Beatriz (born in 2006) and a son, João Maria (born in 2007).

Portugal participated in and won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Amar pelos dois" written by Luísa Sobral. The song was performed by Salvador Sobral. In August 2016, the Portuguese broadcaster Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) announced that they would be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2016 due to poor results in previous contests and the broadcaster's insufficient promotion of music-related content. RTP organised the national final Festival da Canção 2017 in order to select the Portuguese entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. After two semi-finals and a final which took place in February and March 2017, "Amar pelos dois" performed by Salvador Sobral emerged as the winner after achieving the highest score following the combination of votes from seven regional juries and a public televote.
Portugal was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 with the song "Deixa-me sonhar " written by Paulo Martins and performed by Rita Guerra. The Portuguese participating broadcaster, Radiotelevisão Portuguesa (RTP), organised the national final Canção para Eurovisão 2003 in order to select its entry, after having previously selected the performer internally. RTP returned to the Eurovision Song Contest after a one-year absence following their withdrawal in 2002 as one of the bottom six countries in the 2001 contest. The winning song of the national final was selected exclusively by public televoting. "Deixa-me sonhar " emerged as the winning song with 75% of the votes.

The third season of Portuguese The Voice Kids is a talent show broadcast on RTP1, which premiered on 8 May 2022. Carlão, Carolina Deslandes and Fernando Daniel returned for their second seasons as coaches and in the meantime, Marisa Liz was replaced by young sensation Bárbara Tinoco. Presenter Catarina Furtado continues to host the show, and Fábio Lopes also returns as the backstage presenter.
The Voice Kids is the junior version of The Voice Portugal, broadcast on RTP1, with competitors between the ages of seven and fifteen. The first season premiered in 2014, and the show did not come back for a second season until 2021. In April 2019, RTP1 announced a reboot of the show, which was set to premiere in 2020, but ended up being postponed due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
